Well ordered a Boyds At-One stock for my Ruger American Rimfire. Stock came very quickly which is a plus and the stock itself looks amazing. I like it a lot and the cheek piece and the adjustable comb is great too. Now the bad.... the Ruger has 2 V blocks that you remove from the factory stock. The back one is the extractor, mag release, and bedding block all in one. I put them in the Boyds stock and the barreled action just kind of rocked back and forth and wouldn't sit into place like it should. I finally got it semi solid and I tried to screw in the action screws. Neither would even come close to touching the barreled action more less actually catch a thread. I pull the barreled action off and put the screw through just the bedding block to see how much I have to work with. It doesn't even clear the top of the bedding block. So I started my google foo and found some people saying you needed longer action screws. So I go to lowes and Home Depot only to find they don't carry specialty screws like these. Tried a local gun shop and they don't carry them either. So I call Boyds only to have a message taken and promised a call back which I haven't received. Knowing that sometimes it could just be me doing [censored] wrong I take another crack at it. Again same thing... FML. So I get the old stock and put everything back together and fits like a glove perfectly. Take it all back down and put the front bedding black in and notice it sits perfectly flush with the milling of the stock. However the rear bedding block does not sit flush it sits about 1/8th of an inch high. It can't go any lower in the stock since the grooves that are milled into the side of the stock only go down so far. So I take out the rear bedding block and put the barreled action in and bam everything fits perfectly and the front action screw is a perfect fit. Got an email into Boyds with pictures to see what they're going to do about it. I'm not a happy camper about it, but as long as they make it right I really love the stock overall. First 2 pics shows how the screw doesn't even clear the bedding block. The last one is a void that was machined out which shouldn't have been.

That’s a wicked looking stock. It’d look a lot better with a barreled action in it, though.

The last four McMillans I've had my hands on needed work. And those are $550+ stocks. But they were needing some light fitting correction.
When you need action screws, go see your local Fastenal store. If they don't have what you need, they often will the next day. Fastenal is aces.

I recently "finished" a American in 6.5 into a Boyd's and had a lot of issues myself. The barrel channel was milled off center and the mag well milled too deep. I finally got it halfway fitted after opening up the barrel channel and making a shim so the magazine will lock in. I still need to bed the action but it's good enough to hunt with for now. I won't be buying another Boyd's after seeing too many issues. In fact I may scrub this stock and get the magpul one. I just wanted a nice wood laminated stock.

It appears that you got the vertical grip. I never saw that option when I purchased mine, and still dont see it in the accessories page.

I doubt they’ll do anything, that’s Boyd’s...”some fitting required sometimes”.
Great looking stock...both of them.

I have two Boyds stocks, just regular walnut sporters and both actions just dropped in place. The extra fitting doesn't surprise me but I am surprised that Boyds doesn't enclose a couple of longer bedding screws for the Ruger action.
BTW, the Ruger casting looks like it was done in Romania or Pakistan. I thought it was spot-welded for a minute or the camera was out of focus...

I should be able to dremel it out pretty easily but if I can get it taken care of without me having to deal with it, that would be great lol.
Yea Cole the casting of the bedding blocks is very rough and looks like pot metal.

KRoyal,I know that I have had to use longer action screws on every Savage action that came out of a synthetic stock. The factory screws are too short when using a Boyd's laminate stock.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a Boyd’s stock that didn’t take some work to fit.

The factory stock was a laminate stock as well. Not sure if that matters, but it wasn't synthetic. I don’t think I’ve ever had a Boyd’s stock that didn’t take some work to fit. Lol this just seems like a lot of "fitting" I've never bought an actual laminate, wood, or fiberglass stock before. I've always used Chassis and AR parts it just boggles my mind how AR and chassis manufactures can get extremely close tolerances and prefect drop in fits but the guys making gun gun stocks for a living cant even get close.

The Boyds for my Savage 308 required some fitting as well. Dremel took care of it.
For a screw, I agree that I'd probably try to find the right one before I'd take a dremel to it. But if all else failed, I'd do what I had to do to make it fit.
That's a freaking awesome looking stock.

If Fastenal really didn't carry it, you should be able to find what you need on McMaster carr. They have literally everything.

I don't think once he uses his Dremel he'll need new stock bolts...that's how far off the inletting is in that area.

Right, once I get the inletting correct with the Dremel I won't need different action bolts. Also I didn't go to Fastenal they were closed at that time so idk if they had a longer screw or not. After figuring out that the inletting was so off it wasn't letting the action sit in the stock correctly a longer action bolt wouldn't fix the problem my action would still ride about 1/8th of an inch too high and probably wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn LOL.

How big will the barn have to be after you do the surgery? Sorry, couldn't resist. You young fellows need some humor in your lives.
