Looks like folks here have killed just about everything else.
Just curious.

I helped pull a dead one ashore, in crocodile infested waters. (The mighty Zambezi.) Does that count? Very nice German client shot it. He didn't speak a word of English. (Nor I German.) 'Came down all alone.

My buddy shot one. Made a good table with glass in top. No pics will be posted. Too many loonies on the interwebs.

What species of Hippo are you talking about? They can always warm you in the winter and shade you in the summer.

Gary had a nice hippo skull at Rhode's taxidermy in Kerrville a few years ago. Didn't catch the story.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I may be off here but Hunting hippos seems to be the least sporting of all the African game. Never been but have seen several hunts in TV. All seem to just sneak up to a water hole and shoot them in the head while they are in the water. I understand they are very dangerous. Don’t have any want to kill one but don’t have issue with those Who have or do. Maybe this is why not many hunt them. Size probably has something to do with it too.

I watched Shockey try to hunt down a problem hippo once the whole thing was on land in thick brush. It was pretty wild.

Two animals I never had a desire to hunt - hippo and crocodile. Trophy fees have been extremely high ($3-4000) and I wouldn't really consider it an exciting hunt. More a marksmanship challenge to my way of thinking. Hippos on dry land can be terrifying, if you get between them and the water, and I have dodged a few.... If a person is hunting lions and needs block baits, then generally a hippo or several buffalo are needed to bait with.

Sounds a lot like hunting deer in Texas.

Sounds a lot like hunting deer in Texas. Apparently you have never been caught between a big buck and the feeder when the spinner kicks on...

Both those animals were more like 7-10k when i was just in South Africa, you can no longer hunt hippos in SA from Rivers it has to be a lake is what our PH told us.

I've not done it but talked to guys who have and they've all said that there's a huge difference between hunting them on land and in water with the land being much more fun
