Have you accuracy tested with and without the can?

^^ I'd try this also, just to help eliminate problems.

I didn't test without the can, it's worked flawlessly on every rifle it has gone on and when I started this project last year I tested it with a different known performing can.

rifle just got bedded, looking at the action I could see it was only making contact on the bottom like maybe a 1/2" wide at most..
Will let it cure for a good 24 hours and test it hopefully Wednesday

ccoker, hope this will give you a little peace of mind.......Hill Country Rifles pillar and glass bed every action they put in a McMillan. I bet it solves your problem.

oh yeah.. of course..
If not, then there is something else wrong
Every bolt action hunting rifle I grew up with was glass bedded by my dad..
Same with every one I have done as an adult.
I was really curious to try it with no bedding. The stock was already had pillars bedded.

Really, it was going to be that if it shot great, I wasn't going to bed it. But given that it wasn't...

Sounds like a bedding job is in order, like when trying to solve other problems, change one thing at a time or you will not know what the issue was.

Load some SMK's for it, if it doesn't shoot those inside an inch something is definitely wrong. My experience is that nearly every rifle I've loaded for will shoot SMK's. Verify the chamber head space is correct with go gauge and no go gauge, make sure the stock is not torqueing the action, make sure your barrel is free floated to the stock.

I'd wager it's an incorrect assembly issue,or a scope puke...though in fairness,McGowen is the bottom of the barrel.

Pun be intended..............
