This followed me home today, 91/30, bubba hit it pretty hard with that big hammer of his. But for what I paid its like I got a free barreled action with purchase of the stock and the see all sight it came with. I plan on stripping the god awful paint job off the stock, cleaning the rest of the cosmoline out of the action, going to attempt crowning the hacksaw job barrel. She's nothing special and likely never will be, but she's mine today.

You never know, get it cleaned up and crowned and it may shoot good. What's the rifling look like?

Rifling is bright towards the end of barrel, throat is fouled, have to soak and scrub then check for pitting.

I stripped the stock last night, back to black, going to start cleaning the action tonight. Ill put up a few pics when I get home

Please do, now I'm curious how it will turn out looking and more important, how will it shoot. Your first pictures of it looked more like something you drive t posts with rather than shoot.

Alright, just got done working with her for the evening, I completely disassembled everything, scrubbed the bore, Good news, no pitting and after a good cleaning its nice and shiney all the way. Not a mirror finish, just shiny. I boiled all the small parts to get the cosmoline to come loose, then poured a few pots of boiling water down the Barrel, re-oiled everything, reassembled bolt, left rifle apart because I want to address this pile of what appears to be solder where the rear sight used to be, any ideas for getting it off without heat? I'm thinking hand file.

On a side not I stared rewatching the "band of brothers" series while doing this for extra points lol. Enjoy the pics, again any suggestions for the solder pile would be appreciated.

Seems like a fun project. I almost bought a bubba K31 at a pawn shop but he would not come down off his number, that was way to high. Why do some shops try to get away with selling hacked sawed barreled and routered up stock guns as if they are military collectibles in great shape?

I guess they are just waiting for some sucker to come along and grab it. I paid 200 for this one, but here's why i did, the archangel stock is around 140$ new, the see all sights run around 75$, and it come with a hard case 20$. If it was just a bare rifle in a hacked wood stock I wouldn't have touched it for less than 80$

I cleaned up the end of the barrel with a hand file, beveled the outside edge with a touch of sand paper, and the best trick ever for the crown, I used a brass machiene screw and made my own compound. The machine screw is self centering with the round head so no need for a pilot, just reapply compound often and work the a few around in a random pattern, don't just press down. I knocked this out in about an hour. Also cleaned that glob of solder off.

I found this paint that you bake on and is heat resistant, going to give it a try for refinishing the rifle, so I'm doing my boiling water treatment again to strip all the oil off before I paint, want to knock it out today, chance of rain tomorrow

Good job on the crown.
I'm my experience that paint will not hold up to any sort of cleaning oil. If you want the next best thing to cerakote, go to auto zone and buy some VHT ceramic caliper paint.

If she shoots good I may give her a new coat of paint, I just wanted a cheap surface protectent since I took some metal off. How does that VHT stuff hold up?

Well I'm done with her till I get out to the range and see how she shoots. I went ahead and did a polish and shim job to the trigger group wile I had it apart, still a pretty heavy trigger but all the grit is gone now and the break is much cleaner. Put the see all sight back on, thinking this may become my back up brush gun to my model 94.

Looks WAY better! That's a pretty cool crown job, hope it's center. When and what will you shoot through it?

Its center with the bore, really have to be pushing to one side constantly to lake it off center with the method I used, its self centering.

I have a ranch/hunting trip planned the week of thanks giving, going to sight in a few things at the range before hand, may drag it along then or just do it at the ranch. I plan on running cheap ammo through it, I don't intend on running it like a target rig.
