When November comes, me and my son will be heading to some public hunting grounds to see if we can get some rabbits. However, none of them allow rifles, so the .22LRs will stay home. We'll be taking the 12 Gauge Shotgun instead.
I've never hunted rabbit with a shotgun, only my .22LR
Can any of yall recommend the proper shot size and chokes for rabbits?

If only hunting rabbits, normally I use #6 game loads with IC to Cyl choke.

Thanks.

An ounce of 6 or 7 1/2 will get the job done. I use a modified choke.

Thanks. Dove hunting I normally use a field load. Game loads generally are a slower fps and or less shot than a field load. For dedicated shotgun rabbit hunting I also prefer to carry one of my lighter shorter barreled guns.

I love using a 410. When using a 12 or 20 I found a lot of the meet was wasted when i would shot them running but if I got a shot while it was still that was not a problem because i would take a head shot.
If the trigger is gold, the birds will fold.

I like #5 or #6 pheasant loads for squirrels, they will knock the stuffin out of a rabbit also. Use whatever you have, they are not that hard to kill.
Shoot. Eat. Repeat.

I agree with this and no choke titer than modified.

Cotton tails don't need much to go down. Texas Jacks do. #5 or 6 modified choke for one, #2 lead 1 1/4 oz full choke for the latter
