I just converted over to 12V spinner/motors this year and I bought Duracell batteries thinking They would last, they didn't. In under 3 months they both are low/dead. I had heard they last up to a year without touching them (I didn't even install solar chargers). Is there a certain brand you guys get good results with?

Depending on how often/long you feed, will certainly impact battery life, but I wouldn't expect any to live for a year with no charging. Why not install a $30 solar panel and not worry about it?

Unless your planning on replacing the battery about once a month.... you better get a solar panel

I bought the solar panels with intentions to install them. But through research (obviously false), I thought I would get through the season without having to touch the batteries. Then I would recharge them in the spring next year, and right before next season. I had one extra battery that is now in service. The one it replaced was so low it wouldn't even recharge. I have another feeder with a very low battery, it tested, but not strong. I figure I have to make a special run in a week or so to keep things running. Fellow Lefty, I don't think I have room for two 6V batteries. Looks Like I'm bringing my drill to install a couple of solar panels as well.

Your correct on space inside the motor/timer housing. Unless it's a 12volt housing it's probably not large enough for 2-6volt batteries.
I even have two 6volt batteries inside my bossbuck feeder and it looks like they would not fit.

I'm thinking two 6 volt batteries are equal or smaller than one 12 volt. Could be wrong though
Would two 6 volts work better than one 12 volt?

Would two 6 volts work better than one 12 volt? I use two 6 volt instead of one 12 volt so I always have batteries for all my feeders.

I've used the 6V 4.5ah batteries and they work OK but don't last as long as a standard 6V without a solar panel. With a solar panel, they will drop off during a couple of weeks of cloudy weather. If your box has room, a pair of the 6V 7ah batteries work well. I use these exclusively now and have enough for all my feeders + 2 extras. I have a charger at the house and keep the 2 extras charged so I can do a swap out easily. I usually got 1.5-2 years off the 4.5ah versions but the 7ah versions are 3 years old and still going. It probably has to do with drawing the 4.5ah ones down below safe voltage whereas the bigger one has the extra amperage to handle load longer. They are designed for security and UPS use so they are usually built better also. Here is a shot of the 6V-4.5ah on left and 6V-7ah on right.

Walmart has them for $7.99, if I can fit them in a feeder housing your on to something!! When I was at the TTHA show I noticed several of the vendors with feeders for sale were running different batteries than I use and it been on my mind since.
I just don't know if they will fit...

I got seven years out of my first two 12v feeder batteries (solar charged) and only changed them out last year.
At the end of the day, few companies make feeder batteries, they're all made in China, and there's probably not a difference in any of them. Get one you get the best deal on, put it on solar charge, and roll with it.
