The only thing I gather from this is that I need to put my phone down and quit reading posts like this while I am hunting.

I use my smart phone to send pictures to the guys at work so they know what they're missing.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I never turn mine on until the sun is up at least. I don't want the blind to look like a light house.

I will text my friend who is hunting in Michigan. We report whatever walks by, she always wins when complaining about cold.

What I do (absolutely use it) and what I might have a kid who spent too much time on the phone do, are entirely unrelated. True. The kids need to be finding the Playboys under the carpet and looking at them just like we all did. Darn straight. Go find some Penthouses in the creek, son. That fancy googling just makes you lazy. Teaches dexterity too.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I always take my phone to the stand with me, but only for text messages back and forth with hunters in other areas or emergency. It's in my pocket 99% of the time. I have been known to take a book or magazine with me. Like NP, I can stay in the stand longer.

I don't own a cell phone! Same here and don't want one. It's hard enough dodging them with both eyes on the road.
One shot is all it should take.

If there is an accident, like tripping and injuring yourself, I want my phone, but most of the time I don't use it. Trying to escape when I'm out in the field. Enjoy nature. That being said, I agree it is no different than a book.....

Sometimes I text, but mostly I nap. Some of the best naps I've ever had were in a deer stand. I had some buddies on a lease in the 80's laugh at me one time. I had a rope near my wooden plank nailed in the tree fork. They asked about it and I told them it was so I wouldn't fall out of the tree when I went to sleep. I actully was sleeping one day with the rope holding me in and drooling on a doe below me. That was an awesome nap. A few years ago I was doing a College paper with my wifi in the stand. It was hard to consentrate.

I've written some of my best"ditties" while in a stand. Always carry my phone. Missed some animals Im sure.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

What's difference in being on a smartphone and reading a book in the blind? Signal strength
