txtrophy85,
A biologist years ago told me they are a mixture of desert mule deer and rocky mountain mule deer. I honestly don't know.

Pecos county surrounds the Fort Stockton area but I'm no where near there. Some of the biggest bucks in recent years have come out of the sand hills west of Lubbock.

I hunt pecos county and have not seen any Sandhills maybe up around imperial there may be some

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Never hunted Pecos county myself. The sandhills I'm aware of where big bucks roam are west of Lubbock and where I hunted in Hartley county.

There are no sand hills in the trans Pecos where you hunt. The areas in Texas that have this terrain are in the western edge of the panhandle.
