I'm finally getting around to working up a load for my 308 in 7.62 LC Brass. From what I read the rule of thumb is 2 grains less powder due to the thickness of military case. That's understood.
I plan to load Hornady 150 grain SP interlocks over Varget.
I've researched data from three sources for varget and 150s.
The variation in staring weight varies greatly between my sources which are Hornady 9th, Hodgdons website and Lee modern reloading. That plus the reduced case capacity is confusing me.
Can some of you advise a safe starting point for Varget and 150s in LC brass?

Start with the lowest charge and go up from there.

Start with the lowest charge and go up from there. a low charge can be a problem too I'm looking for input from someone with experience with military brass. I've loaded military brass for years, and a lot of it has been Lake City. If you use the "starting loads" from any of the sources you have cited, you will not have any problems. As you work your way up the scale, be sure to do what any experienced reloader does, and that's to creep up slowly on the charge and carefully examine each shell casing for pressure signs. You can safely and easily work up the load you want.

^^^^ My most recent 308 load using LC Brass 178gr bullet and AA4064 ended in the middle of the starting and the max published numbers. Start 40.5gr Max 45gr and my sweet spot was 42gr; 42.4 was showing signs of pressure. Start at the bottom work you way up and you should find your max 2 or 3 gr short of the published max.

All good advice from above. What I have found, military brass (LC and WCC), has about a 1.0 to 1.5 grain less. But it depends on which brass you are coming from. Win brass has the most case capacity, and will give you the greatest difference. Lapua is about .5 grain less than Win brass.
Basically, use your normal load data, and reduce your max by about 1.5, and that will put you in the area. Starting loads in the 308 are generally very light, since most manuals are pretty conservative to begin with. I always look at max, and work backwards from max as my starting point.
