HD Lens on my Zeus 640 75mm and some questions vs Zeus Pro 640 100mm #6912761 10/08/17 01:06 PM

I recently bought a Zeus 640 30hz 75mm and found it looked different from all the pictures I had seen of these scopes. Someone told me in another forum that what was different was that my Zeus had the new HD lens. He said it was way better than what they originally came with. I've looked online and can't find any info on this "HD" lens and the guy that offered up this answer as to what it was hasn't commented further to my questions of what all it improved, when they started using them, etc. An email to Armasight has not been answered either.

Does anyone know about this HD lens on the Zeus 640 75mm and just how great it is? I think the view looks very nice but I have very little experience with thermal scopes to really know. I am contemplating wanting higher optical magnification and therefore considering sending this Zeus 640 "HD" 75mm back for a Zeus 640 Pro 100mm but now I am hesitant wondering if giving up the HD lens is a bad move. Or do all new Zeus 640 scopes come with HD lenses?

Assumming that this HD lens isn't coming on all Zeus scopes now but is specific to the 75mm, I am wondering if anyone has experience with both the Zeus 640 75mm (with HD lens) and the Zeus Pro 640 100mm and could tell me whether the view in the 100mm would be as good but with slightly more magnification or, since I have the HD lens on the 75mm, if I would be taking a step back in view quality for slightly more magnification with the 100mm?

Thanks.

Here's my 75mm:

Why do you think you need such a big objective lens? They are very much the exception due to their cost and need for the typical night hunter. I sure wouldn't want to manage something that big or even bigger for the 100mm on my rifle. I'm guessing you spent at least $4k on that if used, I'd return it. The quality of the cores available now will provide an as good if not better sight picture and magnification in a 50mm lens to include lots of other new features such as on-board recording as well. Warranty is important too. That's a Pulsar statement and kind of an Armasight/FLIR statement as well. A/F is starting to rollout their new products.

You didn't answer any of my questions, but to answer yours: I need a big objective lens because I want higher magnification. I have no problem with the scope size or weight. I have no problem with the price for a high quality, large objective thermal such as this. Furthermore this scope is not used, I just bought it new and I'd only return it if the Zeus Pro 640 100mm would provide at least as good as image but with the extra magnification (not sure if it comes with an "HD" lens now or not and what difference this makes). Hence I am asking for very specific answers about this particular popular thermal scope and it's bigger brother hopefully from someone who knows. Lastly, the core in this Zeus is awesome and, while the new FLIR boson core will out do it for the same objective lens size, it's going to be months still before the 640 boson cores are out and nobody knows the prices that will be asked so I say the tried and true Zeus Tau 2 17 micron core is a superb approach to thermal hunting.

Based on my knowledge of both, the HD lens is slightly different .but I wouldn’t swear to that. I’ve used both model, for a short time. I thought the75 lens did have more detail. But armasight can be fine tuned more than most , so it may have been just the setting were better for those conditions, on that night . I didn’t see enough of a difference that would stop me from trading if I wanted more magnification. The 100 I used was nothing tho throw rocks at ..... if your convinced you want more mag, go ahead and swap. You won’t be disappointed with either. Only way to get better image and mor mag would be ird mk3. But if I remember right , it’s slightly less native mag than 100 mm. Take all this for what it’s worth . My experience with both those particular models was only one night . I use ird day in and day out . Hope this helps

Yes sir, that does help, thanks! I am thinking about the IR Hunter Mark III 60mm too because it has 4.5 optical mag (which I hope is actual). The Zeus 100mm is known as a 4x but is actually 3.5x and the 75mm I have is known as 3x but is actually 2.7x. Maybe the IR Hunter Mark III 60mm is what I really need. The IR Hunter doesn't have auto NUC though does it? Does it at least have an internal shutter or must you close the lens cap?

You’ve got to cover the lens. People make a big deal about it. It’s non issue to me . Usually have to nuc in first 30 seconds , again couple minutes later . After that just periodically. We are pretty mobile when we hunt. I just make sure we nuc before we put on a stalk , and it’s never been a problem. Im not sure if that is affected by being stationary for long periods of time . Example , if gun was sitting on rest in a blind, and was essentially looking at the same picture for hours on end. I don’t think it matters, but not 100% sure. Not sure where you live , but you’re welcome to come out sometime and compare . Don’t have a mk3, I use the 2 for fov. But image quality is the same in both. Could compare to the zues and see what you like better.

Sorry to have wasted your time, didn't know if you were new to thermals or not. A lot of people on the hog forum, with lots of different scopes, don't know of any that use such a large objective as a standard mount. Magnification is not generally #1 on the feature list, particularly for night hunting. Good luck with your purchase.

That is the new style of Zeus. Different focus ring and large lens housing. HD series. I don't know how much of a difference it makes but they are clear scopes. More magnification than most need for pigs but its definitely a good unit. Would not go for the 100. The field of view is way too tiny.

Thank you, can you please tell me if a newly purchased Zeus Pro 640 100mm 30hz will have a new HD lens as well?

Do the newest Zeus Pro 640 100mm look different from all the pictures on the internet? This is what I found with my new Zeus 640 75mm. What I got looks completely different on the front end from any picture I can find on the internet. Will a new Zeus Pro 640 100mm have a different look as well with the new focusing ring and a larger objective housing with a different lens cap (one that looks like my Zeus 75mm)?
