Does anyone know how long it takes for the notifications to happen. I know the deadline was Sunday and it says they normally do the drawing on the first business day after the deadline. This is our first year doing the post card draw and I was wondering how long the notification process takes? Thanks!

I just checked my status. It looks like they did the multi species draws already but not the waterfowl. Maybe they will draw them later today.

Thanks. I assume that changes after the drawing is held based on whether or not your drawn???

Yeah, it will say "not selected" or "pending 2nd draw" if you're not picked.

Here's what I was told...

Good Morning,

That category should be drawn soon, we apologize about the delay. Here is the plan for the drawing dates for each area for that category.

Dimmitt Playa, Playa Lakes WMA E-Postcard Waterfowl 10/16/2017
Gus Engeling WMA E-Postcard Waterfowl 11/21/2017
Keechi Creek WMA E-Postcard Waterfowl 12/21/2017
Nannie Stringfellow WMA E-Postcard Waterfowl 10/16/2017
Richland Creek WMA E-Postcard Waterfowl 10/23/2017

Thank you,

I don't understand why they would wait til the middle of duck season to draw some of those hunts. Kind of makes planning difficult to say the least.

Whats the main difference in the draw hunt and any other day when Keechi is open to APH hunters?

I don't know. I didn't know it was open for daily hunting. I don't live in the area. Just applied for the first time this year.

Great point though. Maybe on the postcard dates it isn't open for general public and only open to the postcard winners.

Have you hunted there before?

I know they area and know its under APH but like the other wma they will shut it down to the public for the draw hunt winners... im just betting theres more to it.. like extra access or something similar

I could be wrong... but looking through the options available, I don't think waterfowl hunting is allowed this year at Keechi Creek this year unless you go through the E-postcard option...

For anyone who's interested. This was the response I was given to the following question after the initial response posted above...

Thanks for the response. Any indication why they arenít drawing until these dates? It makes planning difficult when they arenít going to draw a couple of the ones I applied for until right in the middle of duck season.

Good Afternoon,

I believe they wanted to make sure that they were still going to have the hunt due to habitat. Most units have not had enough rain so they are not sure how many hunters or groups these areas can support at this time. That was the reason for the delay. We apologize about any inconvenience.

Thank you,
Wildlife Information

KC has always had postcard type hunts sinc. Tbis is because access is only available through a very restrictive easement that only allows the public to enter the property with TPWD staff.

Does this mean they escort you to a specific spot?

Well I guess I answered my own question. We got drawn on the second draw for Richland. If someone from our party isn't able to make it does that affect us any?

I don't think so.... We were there last year... Some were saying, XXX couldn't make it. It wasn't a big deal.

No, its not a big deal if someone can't make it, but they like you to call and let them know that.

I got drawn opening day at Richland Creek for opening day. One person in our group will not be able to make it and they said that is fine and won't affect the other people in the group.

Last time I talked to guys in charge of Richland Creek, there wasnít enough water at Keechi or Gus for drawngubts. The recent rains might have changed that for Keechi, I didnít remember the dates. Coach
