Trying to put a case trimmer on my Christmas list. The Hornady is $70 at Academy. A few quick questions:

- Does it use the same "lock & load" inserts as the Hornady bullet comparator?
- Is the Hornady unit a good one?
- It says it works with Hornady shell holders - will RCBS or Lee work also?

The Wilson trimmer turns out very consistent results for just a bit more.

Just got my giraud. Held off until now bc of price. Wow. Worth every penny. Trimmed and chamfered 400 pieces of brass in about 15 min.

Thanks.

On the Wilson, do I need extra inserts or cutters for 223 or 6.5CM?

You'll need different case holders. Don't need to change cutter.

I Have the Hornady. It is a good trimmer and you can trim to the .001. Down side is you have to use Hornady shell holders. You can get a power adapter and chuck up a cordless screwdriver which will speed things up.

I bought an assortment of hornady shell houlders with mine for $15. If they are still offering it, you are eligible for a free box of bullets from hornady when you buy the trimmer.

Looks like the Hornady rebates no longer include the case trimmer. That probably would have pushed me over the edge for Hornady since it's cheaper anyway.

Why is the Wilson better than the Hornady (for those of you who suggested it)? I like that the Wilson doesn't require a bunch of different cutters or pilots. Looks like the shell holders are all I need, and I wont' get confused about whether they're for my press or my trimmer since they look quite different.

So for the Wilson, I just need the unit and a shell holder for each caliber, right?

UH??? I think you just mean case but you added holder twice so I'm confused.

1 - yes
2 - yes, very adequate
3 - no

I had a Hornady trimmer. Not a bad trimmer, I replaced it with a Giruad.

Just from google, it does appear that for some calibers, Wilson has separate holders for fired vs new cases.

I don't know why but I was not thinking Wilson...I had Hornady on my mind...that's correct. No wonder I wasn't following.

Gotcha. Sounds like either would be fine for my purposes.

Speed is not a concern of mine. I will be trimming so infrequently that it just won't matter.

I used this for 20 years, https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1012951880/rcbs-trim-pro-2-manual-case-trimmer-kit , on 2nd trimmer though, and to speed things up,,,I removed the handle and attached a cordless drill and trims within .001" . Beats doing it by hand.

Wilson makes a two types of case holders, New case holder (not fired) Fired case holder (a case that has been shot)

Figured I would provide an update to this. I was pretty well set on the World's Finest Trimmer or the Wilson, but I found a Hornady NIB on snipers hide for $40, so I went with that. I guess all I need is a $5 shell holder for 6.5 creedmoor and I'm good to go?

Added the drill adapter to my Christmas list, so hopefully that gets taken care of as well.

I'm also considering a new case trimmer anxious to see what you think of the hornady

I have both the WFT and the Hornady. I use the WFT for 308 and 223. Speeds to process. Use Hornady for 300WM 7MM mag 243. Both are fine. I will say if you have bunch to do the Hornday will feel like work after about 40-50 cases. For small batches its fine. I like the WFT for doing a bunch of cases. Obviously if doing really large batches getting the high dollar Giraud would be way to go. Have that on the wish list....

I just found the Giraud tri-Way. It trims, deburs, and chamfers all in one step. Thinking about selling the Hornady and getting that one. The Hornady would be much cheaper if you’re doing several different calibers, but I really only plan to do 6.5 creedmoor.
