Anyone else into reviving old knives? I found a few in my Dad's wood shop after he passed and have decide to start working on them. Top to bottom they are: Unmarked (very faint Made in USA) 6" Ontario 7" Ontario 7" Case XX 5 1/2" Ekco Forge 9" Ontario 9"

Well, I took the tape off the Case knife's handle and found both scales split and one rivet missing. New tape would work I guess, but I decided to just put a new handle on it. Here it is after and with a cheap sheath. Still need to finish sharpening it. I think it will make a fine camp knife.

That will work, I revive old kitchen knives pretty often.

I got a bit sidetracked from the bigger knives, and I'm working on a 1960s W. German steak knife now... Found an old set (satin lined case that was falling apart) in my Dad's house last year when he passed away. Started out as a set of six, but one was missing and one had a mangled handle (stag) looked like it might have fought with a garbage disposal.

I'm thinking it will make a great little bird/small game knife (with a slightly shortened blade~it's 4 1/2" now), but the tang is rather tiny, so haven't decided how to put a new handle on it yet. I don't imagine it will see any hard use if used on small game, so the tiny tang is probably sufficient.

Here it is with the handle material (1" round) epoxied on and the blade trimmed. Need to shape both.

Rough blade profile is done (not finished), but this handle material is tuff stuff. (UHMW Polyethylene) Going to have to mill it down some before the final shaping.

After a bit of milling... lots to do still, but it's getting there.

Sounds like a worth while project to restore your dad's old knives. Let us see 'em when you're done.

I drop by estate sales and head for the kitchen to see if I can find that stuff.

You might like this one then... it's marked "Foster Bros 1962" with a large "U.S." above that, has about a 9 1/2" blade.
