HD, that is a Crossbreed Super Tuck made of horsehide. The horsehide is longer lasting than cowhide and worth the modest upcharge. I added the anti-skid tape, which is sold at hardware stores such as Lowe's or Home Depot. The clips are painted with a can of spray paint to match my khakis. Order directly from the maker. https://www.crossbreedholsters.com

Yes There are very good reasons why these two pistols are so often the subject of an either/or question.

I like them both and can shoot either one just as well. Go with the one you shoot the best and is most comfortable.

Having both, I prefer the 1911 platform. I prefer the safety system on a 1911 over the Glock. 1911's feel better in the hand to me and I enjoy shooting them more.

Please explain. 1911 not one in chamber? That's safe. Maybe you are referring to having children around, that the 1911 might be safer loaded? Please elaborate.

I've shot a few Glocks over the last 10 years or so and didn't hate them. They just never felt natural to me.
I currently have a Ruger 1911 in commander size that I like a lot and a Sringfield XDs that I carry most often.
Had a S&W M&P .40 for a while that I like a lot also. I think I traded it off for a 1911 of some sort though. Was the first pistol I ever bought for myself.

Shane, pretty sure he's referring to the thumb and grip safety on the 1911.

I wish I had held and shot a Glock that I like. I really want to like them. Glocks don't click with me like a 1911 or even M&Ps.

Depending on its purpose to me. To shoot and have around I prefer the 1911 all day everyday. But for a range gun they get dirty and don’t function as Reliably as a glock in my experience. I can go shoot a couple hundred rounds and expect most 1911’s to start getting dirty and need cleaned. A glock seems to just keep going. Still prefer the 1911 but glock has its place in the rotation as well.

Honestly, I've shot 1911's, glocks, springfields, rugers, smiths, and a few more. I've seen them all function to the same degree of reliability. Shooting USPSA and 3 gun, you see plenty of platforms being used. The number one thing that is required of firearms in those sports is reliability. Seeing all of the guns running so well, and so close in standings has led me to believe that there isn't much difference in any of them.
That being said I still prefer the 1911/2011 platform for two reasons: trigger, and frame weight.
The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I've got both platforms in a variety of calibers and sizes.....In all honest truth the 1911's stay in the safe and I shoot the Glocks. My personal deal....If my life depended on it I will stick with a Glock. Don't hate, it is what it is. No matter what Glock I shoot they all shoot the same and being honest...I've had a some hickups with them but that has been either ammo or a VERY dirty gun (I can spray a little oil and keep shooting).....1911's, for me, another story.

I've owned three Glock pistols and never could get to liking any of them. Of course nothing wrong with them, they just didn't work for me.
I often carry a Sig Ultra and a P938. However, you'll most likely find me with a Ruger revolver.

Love my glock. Don't have a 1911, but I'm sure I'd love it too.
I also love my S&W Highwayman revolver.
As well as beer. Love it.

I will always love a 1911. From the old Colt to the Para dbl stack. But I sold them all. And now I have a bunch of glocks. I don't worry about scratches or sand or magazines and cleaning is a snap. It's like the AR15 of handguns. If you want another safe queen no doubt get that 1911. If you like to shoot get the glock.
One shot is all it should take.

I down-sized alot the past few years.
I have 10 Glocks and one 1911 left. Sold the Colts, Kimbers, STIs, Springfields, Dan Wessons, and a single Ed Brown.
The Glocks work well for me, are inexpensive and easy to work on. Mine are chambered for .22LR (3 AA kits on dedicated frames) .380 (1), 9mm (5) and .45 (2). If they made a model 40 without the MOS cuts, I'd likely own one of those as well.
The 1911 I have is just that, a USGI Colt 1911 (made in 1914) which I inherited from my Dad... it will go to one of my sons someday.

The one firearm I regret selling is a Dan Wesson CBOB.

I am not a handgun man. Never have been. Probably fired less than 50 pistol rounds in 30 years (used to plink a lot with .22 pistols as a kid). When I got my LTC a couple of years ago, I shot a perfect score with my Glock 27. No one was more surprised than me.
So, Glock for me. I have since changed to a 43 for even less weight/more compactness. Being a pistol rookie, not having to think about anything but pulling, pointing, and shooting is important to me.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Let's just say there are two things I won't personally have, number one is a striker fired pistol and the other is a plastic pistol. I'm not going to bad mouth them, they have more than proven their worth in the accuracy, durability and dependability department, this is just a personal preference. I've got to have a hammer be it single action or double action. No DAO"s! Now to go beyond the scope of the question I would prefer a double action semi since I put so much importance on the accuracy of the first shot and a DA with the hammer back gives me an advantage. The less that trigger moves the greater the chances for a quick accurate first round out. Now to take it even farther out of scope it just comes down to practice because a good shooter can shot a bad trigger. Since I'm such a big fan of the Browning Hi-Power there's a manufacturer out there who makes what I think is the best of both worlds when it comes to my standards and that's the full size CZ-75. I've shot two of these both standard military police models, one stock and the other had a little spring work, I can only say that I was impressed enough that I know have one on order and already have the spring kit for it.

I prefer the 1911, if for no other reason I can shoot mine better than any Glock I have shot. Could be I just don't like the feel of any Glock I have held or shot.

I have and love both - would never be able to make up my mind between the two when I can have both. My nightstand gun is a Glock 19 as it's the easiest for the wife to handle, but for serious work I have a Glock 41 with light (both have night sights). My favorite carry gun is a Colt Series 70 Gunsite CCO 1911 .45 (again with night sights). If'n I ever get really pissed off I have a USMC 2nd Marine Raider Battalion decommissioned Colt M45A1 1911 .45 with issue Safariland holster and operator belt rig (also with light and night sights)...also have a Colt Series 80 .45 1911 Commander so current numbers favor the 1911 platform but I love both and could do without neither.

I love everything about the 1911. I love the feel, the way they point, the control placement, the upgrade-ability etc.. They are fantastic pieces of engineering. But.. if I could only have one pistol it would be a Glock 17. Why? I like the size, caliber, capacity, reliability, accuracy, speed and reliability. A bone stock base model glock with stock controls and sights is a very unappreciated thing. In stock form Glocks are faster and more accurate than 90% of shooters have the ability to appreciate or realize. Aftermarket triggers, sights, extended controls, grip reductions, stippling, etc.. is just a bunch of unnecessary fluff added to an already great platform.
