My son and I were drawn for Ft Boggy GDAS this year. It looks like we are allowed to bait. How do you successfully bait on a three-day public hunt? Or, can you?

You try to find a place the deer are using and the corn is more for getting them to stop or slow down. Unless its a high density area it will prob take a day or two just to get deer to come to the corn.

Find a feeding area or a travel route based on prints and obvious numerous poop depossts, cropped tender stems and any rubs or hog prints and mud rubs yadda..and lighty corn the incoming trails or crossings that you can find, with a larger scattered offering in acouple spots in view. .

One time at Guad Rvr SP my pard and I had found some cheap barely ripe apples while doing the grocery shopping for the trip, bought 'bout um 20-30 lbs of them. Spent the 1st nite in camp, the nite before checkin, prepping the da$#@'ed apples...cored 'em left em' whole and smeared cheap oily peanut butter in the empty core. Took 2 days before they got on 'em but they licked the apples plumb clean and never saw a tooth mark in the apple. Hog prints everywhere too...we started calling apples a Game Repellent after that....but if you take the screw top lid of a jar of PB and run a screw threw it on a small tree trunk about deer head high . screw the the jar onto the lid and crack the bottom og the jar out of it...the PB will be gone PDQ...dunno if it's worth it or can do it on the Lottery Hunt though.

See if you can find some alfalfa pellets, or even a loose bale to put out by the handfull like you corned an area..

I went on a archery public land hunt and used C'Mere Deer 3-Day Harvest along with corn. Within an hour after putting it out, had a doe come out like she was on a string and walked straight to where I poured the C'Mere Deer pellets on the ground. I harvested that doe and told my friend that was hunting with me about how she reacted to the C'Mere Deer. He hadn't seen anything. That evening hunt, I poured some on the ground near his stand and a short time later, he called me on the phone and said that he had shot a doe. He and I couldnt believe how fast the deer came out to check it out. It does have a great scent to it. I also want to try the big and J BB2 but havent had a chance yet. There was only 2 other deer harvested out of numerous hunters in the three days we were able to hunt. We had several other does come into range but could only harvest one doe and one buck. No shooter bucks showed.

I have an Ace Hardware not far away that at least used to carry feed. They expanded in the last couple years and I think they added to their feed products. I'll have to go check them out.

GTK on the C'Mere Deer...I'll look at Tractor Supply, W'Mart and the local feed stores in town...

FWIW the alfalfa does not work everywhere a I recall...deer who've been exposed and accepted it in the past wil walk in and immediately start to feed...and other places they will walk around it to get to the corn ????

Hunted one time at my BinL's place 'tween Rocksprings and Junction behind the Blue Hole...he'd left his alfalfa still wired tight in bales...and until I cut one of the end wires and exposed the inside of the bale a little, none of 'em had touched it for several weeks ...I hunted that blind for 3 days over a T'Day long weekend with steady shooting all around us from other blinds and by the 2nd day it had does and yearling bucks standing shoulder to shoulder over the opened bale.

When is your hunt?
If acorns are on the ground, corn will do you no good. I've hunted here 4 times. Just do a speed scout of your compartment. Find the deer poop, you will find the deer.
Now, if you must corn, the deer will most likely find it that night. But as long there are acorns on the ground, they will walk over the corn.

What a coincidence! I went hiking one day at Guadalupe State Park and found a bunch of apples covered in peanut butter. Man was I hungry. The peanut butter was delicious! food I wished I had brought milk though.

I don't think you found all 20-30 lbs of the baseball sized little Green Apples...and survived the Green Apple Quick Turkey Trots like I got off of just ONE of the leftovers that'd been left in the truck....no wonder the dang deer avoided them...the hogs found them the last morning right before light in front of my pards blind as he spooked them off the pile walking in a 5:15-5:30am uummm 30-45 minutes before legal shooting time....said it stank like a barnyard from all the hog poop...wish't to heck he'd mentioned BEFORE I ate the apple, 'cause I'd skipped another microwaved oatmeal breakfast & soggy frozen waffles...or mebbe it was the 1/2 liter of scotch from the nite before....
