the fossil point sporting grounds sniper League,in Slidell Texas is pretty interesting and it's a nice range , more of you guys should check it out.I stumbled upon it this summer and I'm very happy I found it. they listed as being in Decatur Texas but it's way closer to Slidell.

I too found this place just this summer. It beats the shoot out of some of the closer to the city ranges that have RO's with a complex. The staff is good. The range is good and goes to 800. Those wobbly tables suck though. It's only 45 minutes from my house.

Buzz, the pic on their site shows everyone shooting prone. I couldn't tell if they had any benches at the far end. You have to 'qualify' by shooting 1 MOA or better at 200....this shouldn't be a problem for most of us but I fail to understand the reasoning behind it, if there is any. P_102

Prone is at the 200-800 range, you can bring your own bench for that if you need it. Wooden tables for 50-200, not very stable. The RO told me last time they are about to re-build the roof over the 50-200 line. I hope they re-think the benches. Overall, I like the place.

Great Range. 10-12 minutes from work, 45 minutes from home. I have ran out there after work for the last hour of daylight a few times. Once the guy running the place didn't charge me. I have qualified but never went out to the long range set up. The rifle range goes to 200, the long range is two weekends each month, posted on their site.

It's a decent range, and the personnel are good folks.

I shoot off those wooden benches frequently. While not as nice as a concrete bench, I've found them to be adequate unless some ya-hoo is bouncing his equipment all over them as though no one else was there...and it does happen.

I was shooting on the 200-yard line one afternoon when there were plenty of open positions, and some yoyo sat down to my immediate left with an AR15 and with no brass catcher. I stopped him and said "Really? You're going to set up right here and pepper me and my equipment with hot brass?" Sometimes you just have to put your foot down.
