You're welcome Mr Holt. Excellent product, very reasonable price, and great customer service -- I never have a problem recommending that combination to anyone!!

I forgot to mention that the "cleaning station" at my uncles place has seen better days, so the hoist doubles as the cleaning station for gutting and skinning. We just tie a leg to something like the tailgate to minimize movement/swinging. The ability to raise and lower the deer/hog as you're working on it is a great plus and makes the job even easier.

The year before I built this setup I broke a few ribs the weekend before season opened. Could not even handle firewood! The crane is from Harbor Freight and shortened. I have since upgraded to an electric winch because I mounted it on the passenger side, for the hand winch to be useful it needs to be mounted on the driver side. Works so good that everyone calls me to help with their deer too. smile

That's one of the down-sides of having a good set up like that. Consider mounting a cheap 12 volt winch on it. I use one in my ranger power it with a Harbor freight jump starter, just a thought.

Good idea, wish I had thought of it before I hard wired from the battery through the frame.

I have one and I’m young and able bodied. After standing on the tailgate 3 years ago dragging a deer into the bed and having my feet shoot out from under me, landing on the tailgate on my butt, then bouncing to the ground I thought I was paralyzed. I layed there, holding the deer, wondering what happened. Next year I built a hitch hoist. I’ll post a pic tomorrow

Buccee's sales a receiver hitch hoist I believe, for about 150, not sure how good they are overall.

Walmart had some on closeout in December, $99. I think. Well made.

I decided I was getting to old and crippled up to be climbing in the bed of my Rhino to hook a pulley on a tree limb, drag my deer or pig under the tree, hoist the animal with the pulley, back the Rhino under the animal and lower it into the bed then climb into the bed, with the animal, to retrieve the pulley system.
So here is my solution. I open the tailgate, tilt the bed and tie the animals legs together. I now have a 4 strand rope with a loop on one end and 4 meat hooks on the other end to connect the legs together. Much easier than tying the legs.

d

I then run the other end of the rope through the pulley and tie it off to a boat cleat so I can drag the animal to a near by tree.

Next I tie the end of the rope to the tree as high as I can.

I then drive forward until I see hoofs at the pulley.

I close the tailgate, push the bed down and lock it in place, back up, retrieve my rope end from the tree and my animal is loaded. The pipe on the back of the roll cage with the eyelet and boat cleat stays on the Rhino. The only other things I have to carry for this system is the metal arm with pulley (needed so the rope will clear the top of the bed when it is tilted) the 4 strand rope with meat hooks and a long rope. I carry these in a bag of tools under the driver seat.

Have used this system for a couple of years and has worked very well for both deer and pigs.

That is ?$&@!?&$ genius.

a friend of my dad used to have one of the receiver hitch type hoists that the top swiveled so you could winch up, then turn to load into the bed of a truck (or UTV). it worked great since they had me around to do all the winching. I have thought about making one up and putting a cheap 12vdc winch to simplify it even more.

The overhead lights are a very nice touch. Your website doesn't show them as available... price? Does it break down enough to ship? It may be a while before I'm on I-30 east of Dallas.
