I hunt at our family farm that's between Canton and Ben Wheeler. My grandfather swore that he saw a really big cat that wasn't a bobcat a few years back. I've seen bobcats on my camera, but nothing like what you recorded. Really interesting.. hope you find him (dead of course).

Thinking the tail is just the trail image from the way a thermal works....

I called the state GW in Austin and reported it. I assume that passed it along to the local GW. I guess I'll never know for sure what it is but I've never seen a bobcat that big. I've seen him a few times and the video doesn't do it justice. He was very long and big..

I don't agree with the take that the tail doesn't produce the same thermal imagery. It's full of muscle and blood just like the rest of the body and I'm not seeing that at all in your video. Think it's a bobcat. A buck's antlers produce enough heat to create a clear thermal image, a mountain lion's tail certainly would. Here's a mountain lion walking in thermal imagery. It's tail is as clear as can be and you could certainly see it if/when it jumped. Mountain Lion thermal imagery.

It also makes no sense for you to say that you've "seen him around for the past 8 months".
A mountain lion's range is from 10 square miles on the absolute low end (mom with young cubs) to 400 square miles on the high end. It wouldn't be "living in your field". That's not how they operate. They range all over the place all the time and don't typically stay in 1 spot very long.
Bobcats, on the other hand...

You make a good point. I don't know where he's living for sure. Only that I've seen him near my house on three occasions. I will say that on my Thermal a buck's antlers show up very dark compared to the warm body. But, who knows for sure, right? The consensus seems to be 50/50.. the neighbor seems to think that this is the same big cat that's been slicing his calves from belly to throat. Never heard of a bobcat doing that..

But the best news is, whatever it may be, that he hasn't been back... I hope you're right, hope it wasn't a mountain lion. I'd feel safer with my two young daughters playing outside. Thank you for the feedback!
