This is tough question! I'd been a long time gas guy (Maxus and Rem 1100) In the past two seasons I've had a chance to shoot several guns (New A5, SX3, A400, SBEII, Maxus)
The Beretta A400 with Kick-Off is by far the softest shooting 12ga I've had the pleasure of taking to the duck blind.
HOWEVER- The SBEII is the most natural pointing... so this off season when they all went on sale (thank you SB3) I snagged one up and haven't looked back.

Good stuff 175 thanks. I started out in shot gunning on gas but really like my SBE. Shot a A400 Unico on a dove hunt recently and it was pretty damn sweet. Thinking about flipping. Thanks for the feedback

I think it would be really hard to beat a 20ga A400 on a dove/quail/teal hunt... Esp if you have a youth or female hunter getting started. I have a 26" 20ga 1100 that gets the nod every time under those circumstances!

Cannot comment on the SBE but the Berettas are great shooters and highly preferred by target shooters (at least when I was shooting a while back) over other semis. Agree with Duckhunter175, 20 guage all the way unless you're after geese at longer ranges.
Gas guns will normally be softer shooting but also may require cleaning more often (but still only every couple hundred rounds for most). If you do a lot of 'snap shooting' inertia guns may not function properly if the gun isn't solid against your shoulder. P_102

I'm a Benelli guy mostly because the fit me much better off the shelf, of course these issues can be fixed with the shim's 90% of the time and thanks to You Tube, its fairly easy. Also, they just don't break, kinda like a glock but pretty. On the other hand, I have shot the Berreta for 50 rounds of sporting clays, just did not work for me AT ALL. Both guns are about as good as it gets. The new Fabarm Fs4 gets my attention now.

You will probably shoot one better than the other, that is the one I'd pick. The FABARM L4S was mentioned. I have one and shoot it better than any shotgun I've ever owned. Can't speak to the Beretta but the L4S fits much differently than a SBEII.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

Fit of the shotgun is one of the most important things in selection one. Even before the gas vs inertia question. Both are well made shotguns (Beretta Holdings owns them both). They each have their positives: 1. Gas guns are generally softer recoiling. 2. Gas guns generally weigh a bit more 'promoting smoother swinging' (not sure that I buy that one though) 1. Inertia guns are easier to clean - less of the powder/dirt etc gets into the action 2. Inertia guns are generally lighter - making swinging 'quicker' (think hunting ducks in a pit blind for example) They also have their negatives: Gas guns get dirty quicker and will often need to be cleaned more regularly. Gas guns generally are heavier. Carrying one on an all-day pheasant or quail hunt can wear you out! Inertia guns, generally being lighter, have more 'felt' recoil. Inertia guns generally require heavier loads to function consistently Go back to the first thing I said about the FIT of the gun and start there. Just my .02c Oh, and Buzz, that toe needs some work, brother!

Pay it forward - Kids are the future.
Rifles are similar to boats and young women...there's no end to how much money you can pour into them without making them any more useful.

I went with the A350 this year, also. I really like it. I seem to hit more targets with my old shotgun, but I enjoy the new A350 a lot.

Just my .02c Oh, and Buzz, that toe needs some work, brother! Agreed completely. For ME, gas guns are where it's at. With the new rem v3, which I have owned 2 of, the weight issue is negligent. If you shoot a lot, the inertia guns can get annoying, even with light loads. I can appreciate the versatility of a benelli, but for the softest shooting auto, look at a versamax. Big frame, gas, soft recoil and 3.5 inch goodness when you need it.

I have an A400 as well as an SBE2. I find the SBE2 more suited to waterfowl especially in cold weather. My A400 requires a bit more babying than I like to do during season, although it does have a softer recoil. That said,I also find the SBE2 fits me better, but that's something you need to consider for yourself.
