This is my first season in Coke county so I'm curious as to where I can find a good breakfast opening morning?

Hunted Coleman for years and we always went to either JB's(I think its Tiffany's now)in Coleman or the Novice café in Novice....if you go to the Novice café, ask for the home-made maple syrup...

No idea for that area but really difficult to break with the traditional Allsup's Burrito. Indigestion will help you stay awake cheers

It's been 20 years but we used to go eat at a little cafe in Bronte it was painted red, I think it was called the Little Red Cafe or something like that, or we would go eat at a little cafe in downtown Blackwell, no idea if either one of those are still there. Haven't been through either town in forever.

I like to have a small snack for breakfast and then have a big brunch after the morning hunt. We usually cook at the camp.

Agree with Sapper - our group never goes into town unless we need supplies. We prefer to cook over the campfire.

I can't drink coffee until I'm out, or the trains will start running.

I wait until 10 to go back to camp so hopefully by then, someone has cooked breakfast. We only go to town if we forgot something or ran out of cokes. cheers

Can't kill a deer in a cafe! grin

For me its just a little OJ or Apple Juice and something small before leaving camp. I'm usually the last to return to camp as I try to stay out hunting while others are leaving their stands. Deer pattern those guys leaving and then the deer usually up and moving again late morning-mid-day. Once return to camp, then cook up some bisquits, eggs, bacon for lunch, quick nap and then snack & back out to hunt.. don't go to town and can't kill em in camp.

I always make a hashbrown, sausage, bacon, eggs, and cheese breakfast with tortillas at the camphouse. There's never leftovers!

I hate going to town. Show up at my place around 10am and you'll get plenty to eat, Archer co is a little far from Coke co though. Chicken fried somethin with fixins and gravy or sausage and egg tacos is how we roll.

Shoot. Eat. Repeat.

I am with most of you guys, we eat at camp.
After staying in a blind late, cleaning a deer, etc, we are starving.
Something about a camp breakfast is so dang good.

I like to make some breakfast tacos the night before so I can microwave them and take them to the stand with me. Thermos of coffee, bottle of Sunny D and a couple of tacos and I'm good until noon.

In my younger days I never prepared with groceries etc.....and ate all my meals in town.

Glad to say the last ten years I get all the groceries needed to not have to go to town to eat. I like a light breakfast that's quick to prepare to go with my coffee. Cook a big brunch on the outdoor griddle when I return from the morning hunt. Love the smell of sausage, bacon and hash browns cooking outside.

Whataburger's or similar drive thru window...if I am staying in a town.

Several lease's have had a guy that likes to put on a spread on Opening Morning after getting up at 2-3am to cook...and hunts close by 'cause he usually get's 1st dibby's on a blind location. That tradition out of the loose coterie of business contacts and soccer coaches & parents is gone now as all of us are too old and most of us are gone to the Great Hunting Lease in the Sky..and what I miss most about Deer Season....so I usually hunt by myself and eat at some sort of drive thru ...but like Whataburgers best.

The closest town, if you can call it that, is about an hour away, so what's at the house is what you get. It's every man for himself, but we all pitch in. 'Like that chuck wagon tent/trailer very much. That's what it's all about.

How about camp? Why would you go to a cafe on opening morning?

Years ago, it was kind of a tradition where we would have to drive through a small town (back then) and Sammy's in Castroville Texas on hwy 90 always opened early in the morning for the hunters on the way to the lease. Eggs over easy, bacon, hash browns and toast, and whatever type of pastry and coffee you could imagine. Loved the fresh made donuts.
It wasn't unusual to come out of the restaurant and notice all the pickup trucks lined up in the parking slots with not a car in sight.....Also all the guns in window gun racks which you won't see these days.
Good old days, and now most folks use the drive through.....Just not the same!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I usually never leave the blind unless I need to make a deposit. By 7am my gut is making noises that still make me laugh. So I take a sammich, fruit, coffee, water, and plenty of Copenhagen. While I do like going to town and visiting with other hunters, to hear all the good information, and since we have finished the house on our place it is getting harder for me to leave. This will more than likely be the last year for me hunting this way, as we have 2 grandsons that I'll be dragging next year with me. It is working out just fine as the son in laws are now doing all the heavy work, fixing fences, and keeping the feeders full. The grandsons love hanging around my smokehouse when I make sausage, so my hunting is about to get really good. I'll take one of the boys each this year for a couple of hours then either take them to the casa for a big meal, or town.
Sure hope they don't start laughing at the noises and smell in the blind! ninja

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.
