why pay virginia (if this is even a legal method) 75.00 when Tx. is only 40 and can be done easily in a day?

I never understood why you would get a LTC from another state. If you get the Texas CHL, you can bypass the NICS back ground check when purchasing or transferring firearms in Texas. If you have an out of state LTC, you have to go through the same NICS background check system each time you buy a firearm in Texas.

Here are states info on who honors Texas LTCs' . As mentioned why worry about getting a out of state license when one will do ? States that do not honor Texas are not worth visiting anyway .

The Virginia course will teach the law of Virginia.

If you are going to carry in Texas, the day's worth of time and modest expense to learn some Texas law may save a lifetime of a painful mistake.

Don't you still have to qualify locally after taking the online class? LTC classes are around $40 now, the license is $40 now, the renewals are $40 now. Photos and fingerprints are the same price either way. I don't see the benefit of the out-of-state license now that in-state prices are cheap. That online class costs $75 plus the cost of the license.

Yup! No background check AND usually a reduced FFL fee is a huge plus. Why would anyone from Tx even consider getting a license from a different state?!

I think the appeal to many is you don't have to shoot and prove you know what you are doing.

And if they did know what they were doing, what would they have to worry about? I'm confused.

You get like 3 tries to qualify. There were people in my class who had never held a gun before and they qualified after a few simple instructions.

Some people can't shoot a pistol. The no qualifying gets them a license while I don't agree with it but that's the loop hole for out of state. It's not a hard task and anyone that has spent a day at the range shouldn't have an issue.

Now that Texas LTC license are now $40, there is really no need to get an out of state LTC. When it was $140, I was dam sho thinking about it. I found out Peace Officers only have to pay $25, otherwise, I would have went the Virginia route.

I disagree. Most people do the outnof state because they can do it online from home. And often can do it a little at a time.
