Guys,

I'm wondering what your expectations are for this year. It doesn't seem like there have been as many photos put up as in years past showing the progress of bucks growing their antlers. So I'm wondering what your expectations are for the year? As for where I'm hunting they do not look as promising as last year in the numbers of bucks with nice racks and yet the biggest this year seems to be a bigger than the biggest last year and I'm talking about the lease as a whole. My area on the lease does not have near the numbers of nice bucks so far as it did last year.

Check out the post by DH3 in the photo section. He did a very elaborate and in depth "experiment" that should tell you everything you need to know about the whitetail deer!

Hint.....They like to eat food and drink water! banana

There has been excellent native Forbes this year so most bucks are probably sticking to the natural stuff and not getting pictures taken. They are out there just gotta go find them.

Don't be disappointed, things need to dry up before the 6+ year old bucks start giving some pics...trails near fresh rubs are a great place to set up some cams.

Right now I'm not getting this age class on camera at feeders. But that doesn't mean those bucks are not in the vicinity of that pen daily.

We've got some great 120"-130" bucks on cameras that just need a couple more years to be shooters. I'm sure, as pitchfork said, there are some trophy bucks lurking around

Most people I know running cams have had a plethora of young 2-3 yr olds on cam but the big boys seem to not be coming to corn right now. Prob just all the natural browse

ST, that's what I am seeing on my place in Lometa. I've had to start running cams on trails to get pics of the shooters. Only thing coming to corn are hogs, does, and young bucks. We had a great year for fawns. My neighbors and I stepped up the predator control game this year and you can tell. TONS of young deer.

Well I had about 120 acres of thick creek bottoms and 20 acres of wheat on a 1000 acre section. Saw some of the biggest deer last year in the 8 years Ive been hunting the place.

So a few months ago I had tremendous expectations.

But now all my thick creek bottoms is nothing but a big grass field with maybe 1 tree per 2-3 acres and I have no wheat field.

So yeah Im expecting zilch this year on that place.

Got on a lease with my brother in law and his friends about 15 miles southeast of Lampasas. Early indications are pretty good but my only expectations is getting to spend more time with my niece and nephew as well as my kids spending more time with their cousins.

I hope my son gets a good buck and I dont plan on pulling the trigger.

2011-2014 were the worst years of the drought in many areas of the state. that's your 3 to 6 year old age bracket, so with low fawn survival those years there may be less mature bucks the next few years. But, by 2019 I think we have a 3 or 4 year stretch that is going to be epic. I've seen a lot of nice young bucks over the last year, its about to get really good IMO

Not expecting much, I'm on a small lease the neighbors put up a big hog fence to keep pigs out of their property which is on the creek line of my lease, possibly keeping the deer from his place from coming over and it's keeping the hogs on my place still on my place. I'm covered in pigs and only saw 1 small buck on camera . But I like shooting pigs too so oh well
