I was riding along with a fellow THF member today, handling a non-hunting related situation, on an area of family land that hasn't been visited in quite a while, not even by cattle. Besides bumping a WT buck that was the biggest I've seen on the property in approximately 49 years, we also rousted a couple, and even maybe three, very shootable, big axis bucks. Since I had a .338 with me that I'd planned on shooting at a target, in preparation for an upcoming elk hunt, a quick in-cab confab resulted in a vote that said bucks should in fact be perforated with .338 hole. This member advised, guided, and consoled an old man that got excited, fumbled with equipment, and lost sight of the target animal, resulting in no shots fired, without laughing.

Well done young man.

And...the elk definitely have a fighting chance. up

A good part of hunting is swapping stories.

Thanks for sharing. We're all human and can still get excited regardless of how long we've hunted. I bet you get one of those axis before long

Love those kind of stories. I'm 56 now, and have been hunting since 1971 (thanks Dad). I still get excited. I hope I never lose that feeling.

As long as we still get excited we are in good shape. Cannot see the day when I won't be excited just watching deer.

If it's any consolation I missed my morning hunt due to someone smashing the back window of my truck last nite

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
