 old rifle scope

I have an old scope that the covers and ends of the scope are sticky. They leave black, sticky residue on my fingers.
How do I get it off of the scope?
It is a BSA from the 70s or 80s.

You don't ...thats the glue that holds the lenses in the scope and sealing the nitrogen in it if it even had nitrogen to begin with leaking out of it...
