What are the realistic cost of setting up a power pole for a camp site?

Line/pole is within 50 feet. Need 200 amp service with 6 trailer plugs.

I figure there is cost for:
1. Electric provider to pull power from pole to ground?
2. Cost for pole and circuit breaker box?
3. Plug wiring/recepticles?

Can anyone give me a ballpark cost?

For reference I had about 400' of line ran from existing power pole on neighbors property onto my property with poles and a drop...cost was approx $2700.

Electrician came out and hooked up from the drop to my cabin, wiring into the breaker box, running conduit about 50 feet under ground, and installing an outside plug for $1300.

Some of the best money I ever spent, my bill is about $16 a month, and beats the hell out of running a generator all day.

You're getting a good deal. Houston County Electric Co-op charges deer hunters and others who don't maintain a permanent residence a monthly $20 account fee plus usage.

I recently had a new PEC pole/meter loop installed where they connected to an existing pole's wire that feeds into my home. it was about 75' plus setting the pole and they did all the connections but I had to provide the meter loop to their specs. The cost for the pole and connection was $1209 and I bought a PEC approved meter loop built up at Ace HW for ~$600, so $1809 got 200 amp power on the property.

power thread in DIY

I have done all the wiring throughout the building and just pulled wires from meter loop breaker box into the building yesterday. You should be able to get pricing for all the outlets, wires, boxes, covers, etc. online at home depot or lowes to get you pretty close on total cost once you have power at the pole.

Some of the Ace Hardware and building supply stores in more rural areas offer "trailer poles" that are ready to sink in the ground. They include a wired meter base and weather head for connecting to the power company lead-ins, and some may even include a breaker box and outlets.

I should add that six trailer outlets might require special attention if you'll be powering that much equipment from a single pole. It all depends on what you consider a trailer and the appliances in the them. Obviously, you'll need the right breaker box, properly sized wiring, and receptacles.

yep, the Ace HW store I picked up my meter loop was complete setup minus the pole for 200 amp service ... meter loop, breaker box, weatherproof conduit up to a weather head with 3' pigtails out the head (connected to meter and meter connected to breaker box) for hook up, clamps, lugs, etc. ... all mounted to 2x4s to hold in place until pole was set.

I would think 200 amp service with 6x 30 amp breakers (one for each camper) would be good to go if the wiring was sized appropriate and not too far of a run from the pole ... but I'm no electrician.

How old are the trailers? Most of the newer dual A/C guys are 50A but can run on 30. However, the first time they fire up the second A/C they'll blow the breaker. That might be a consideration when you start wiring your trailer plugs.

Thanks,
Rich

You need to pull a 400 amp service and it should cost about the same. A little more...

I am in the process of putting a 30 x 40 shop on my place with TRI-County Coop in Tarrant county. Was having to run around 300 feet from transformer pole to shop. Their charge to set 3 poles and run overhead wire was $2700. I decided to run under ground wire my self. I did have a charge of around $400, with tax title and license included lol, for them to set another pole next to the transformer pole to put my service on. I did supply meter panel-disconnect and weather head, about $300, on site that they will attach to the pole before they raise it up. They would not let me install my meter and disconnect on the transformer pole, go figure.

I remember when it was free. REA taxes paid for it. $50 deposit for the meter was the only charge. Last time, Taylor County Electric charged us $1500 for a single pole drop and meter.

Call your electric company. If you do not know who it is follow the power lines until you find a transformer/meter, the meter will have a name. Some poles even have the power company's name.
You can also get the address for where you need service and start calling power companies that are known in the area, they will know if they service your address.
Most will come out and look at your set up and give you a cost, some do not charge anything, depending on the company and the work involved.
The cost for the meter loop and feeder are on you.
