Domestic Supervision issued a directive that
Old Glory be flying for Memorial day.
The Committee Of Procrastination & Cheapassedness
began the project with an afterthought stop at the
most convenient big box home improvement store and
found a very limited and poorly constructed selection
of turnkey options from wall mounted (which had been
ruled out by decree) and only 1 in ground pole option
which required digging, gravel and sand base topped
with concrete at a cost of $130 not including gravel,
sand and concrete. The committee rejected this option.

With failure not being an option a quick tour of various
store aisles brought ideas forth that ended in the
chainlink fence section.

Materials:
Qty 2 10' 6" x 1.31" galvanized top rail poles
with slip in end.

Qty 1 end cap with loop hole.

Qty 1 pole attachment with loop hole.

Qty 1 3'3'x5' American flag.

Cut 3' section of 1 pole, pound into the ground
at desired location. Use level as you go.
Cut bunged up end of at about 4" from ground.
Attach flag to end cap and attachment with tie wrap.
Slip on to 2nd pole. Slide 2nd pole into ground pole.

You are flying Old Glory in about 10 minutes. Total cost $37.94

Nice work!

Thanks. Wanted to show the hardware in the pic. Will probably look for something
that has a more finished look for bottom attachment but it 's not noticeable from even a short distance.

Nice, I've been kicking around the idea of using a 21 foot stick of 2 inch schedule 40 galvanized pipe.

You should be able to find hardware for it and set in concrete I'd think
you could end up with at least 17' flagpole.

My quick and cheap came out better than I had even hoped.

Mine is like that, but the bottom hook is a metal shower curtain ring and the top has a pulley on it so I can raise and lower it without pulling the pole. High winds will topple it, over the last 20 or so years I have had 4 of them bent.

Good job. I had to improvise on 7.4.2002... but had 21 ft of drill stem on hay fork... it was cool

If I get 4-5 years out of it I'm way ahead of the game.
Will likely pull the ground sleeve and set a permanent
in another location by then.

Thanks. I'm already worried that the city may not like it's location so close to the street.
Bet the HOA would really get a kick out of a drill stem and hay fork in the yard. clap
