I couldn't find anything on the forum about it, so Im gonna ask. What is everyones thoughts on the 22 Nosler? Only a barrel swap and a 6.8 magazine. Is it worth the effort ?

It's a good option if you desire to shoot heavy bullets from an AR platform. For example you can run the 75 gr ELD and they fit the magazine unlike a 223 which needs to be single loaded. Also you get a bump in velocity of a couple hundred FPS depending on bullet weight and barrel length. Drawback is single source brass at this point.

Some of there numbers seem inflated. They do have a fps difference, but I would look at 6.5 Grendel
I thought about a sbr but decided the limited brass and ammo wasn't worth it

I have had 2 of the 22Noslers and 2 of the wildcat version 6.8SPC/22 AKA 22DTi so I have played with it quite as bit and there is no doubt there is an improvement. Now with that being said it up to the individual to decide if it's worth the price for the gain in performance. It's kind of like the ackley debate......most AI's don't gain that much 3-4% but folks go to the trouble all the time for that little gain.

The 22 Nosler is a little hotter and faster round than the 223 Rem. It runs about 200 fps faster, and the case holds about 3-5 grains more powder. For shooters who want faster performance in an AR-15 platform, it may be worth it. As long as there are .22-250s in the world, no. The 22-250 is a longer round and does not fin in an AR-15 platform. It would be based on an AR-10 platform, so it's on a different playing field.

Yep there's the rub... better performance always seems to cost more.

True Oly did try a modified AR 15 lower that would not work with regular AR uppers with special magazines but it was not very reliable and they went out of business so I was discounting that one.

This is how they made it work, and it's specific to one rifle. And you will certainly handicap yourself on cartridge length to get it to fit. And you still have a problem with magazines. It won't work with any standard mags. They offer only a 5 round magazine for $103. No thanks! Getting it to fit is one thing. Getting it to function correctly is another. ...Olympic figured out how to make the 22-250 fit into a standard AR15 platform with a slightly modified lower receiver. This upper will not work if you put it on another standard lower....

... and yet people keep buying them.
I get all the downsides , I owned one myself for a certain period - it was a dirty gun lots of blow back gas , sort of unpleasant to shoot BUT if you slid a 22-250 cartridge into the chamber it would go boom.
There are a few companies who setup niche cartridge offerings on modified guns - they'll always be around and have customers on hold to make a purchase.
Midway is running a sale on 22 Nosler AR Stoner uppers , reviews are sketchy on accuracy.......

Thought about the Nosler. Ended up going with the 22 Creedmore. Will see how it works.
