With all of the flooding, I began to wonder: if a firearm collector vacuum sealed hand guns, how long would they last submerged in water? I'm assuming they would last until the seal was broken....just wondering. How about if someone wanted to store a cache in the backyard? I think about this every time I watch "The Godfather" and Pacino pulls a handgun from the bathroom.

They have regular storage containers for rifles that can be buried.

The seal should last as long as the bag isn't punctured or degrades. I'd be worried about moisture or O2 trapped in the barrel or action or something while vacuum sealing. Maybe fill with argon and then vac seal?
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

They have regular storage containers for rifles that can be buried. Totally a hypothetical question. I know there are storage containers specifically designed for burial. A friend of mine gave me a few roasts from a beef they had butchered and those suckers are right as a drum.

They'd be fine for a short period, but not for an extended period of time. I'd throw in a small desiccant pack inside also.

Seems to me that if the vacuum seal holds, it should work well for long term. When you pull a vacuum, all water moisture flashes to vapor and gets pulled out. Every nook, cranny and crevasse will be free of water - it cannot hide unless it is an airtight area. I would NOT do to a wood stock for that reason.
Yep - I also would add a desiccant pack and an O2 absorbent pack for insurance!
I'd sure like to hear from folks who have tried it to see if I'm missing something.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.
