I just got on a new deer lease in Stephens County and had time to put up my feeders and trails cams two weeks ago. Just checked the trail cams and this one ragged buck is all over both of my feeders. Anyone seen a buck like this before? It seems like there is a lot of young bucks and the upper age class seems nonexistent. Would you cull this buck with the age structure like it is?

Looks like a "stag" or "cactus buck". Caused by a lack of testosterone. If you get one on the ground, he will have underdeveloped huevos. They will usually stay in velvet all year, don't breed, and just hang around and get fat. Great eating.

Hard to tell if that is a cactus buck or not because he is so young, could just be a yearling. I would never cull that deer...imagine in a couple years he could have a really cool rack with double brows.

Yup, weird deer.
I have a yearling that looks backwards, his brow tines stick straight out the back. I need to get a picture.

I would let him grow and see what he turns into.

It would be my guess that is his momma, she'd get the first bullet then I'd move on to him

If I was getting a new lease on a year like we have had (and the last 4), I would see what else is out there. The older deer are there, just a lot of green right now. Unless you have unlimited tags, I would see what work needs to be done on the herd and go from there. He is a young deer, if he needs killing, he will still need it next year.

Good luck cheers

I'd wait, see what else is out there. I had something similar at one time and it turned into a nice buck

Looks inferior to me. In a non antler restricted county I'd take him out. Stephens cty is an A R county, I believe. He's not a legal deer, looks like

Looks like somebody is shedding their velvet. Still the weirdest looking buck I've seen on one of my cameras. Might almost be a 6 point!

If the short point on his left side is under 1", he would qualify as 'one un-branched antler', and could be killed legally.

Yes. Very typical for yearlings to have racks like this. He will straighten out next year. Don't cull him. Now if you're hungry or a kid shoots, that's a different story.

Had a young 6 point buck with his entire left side pointing down. Wife nicknamed him "Unicorn". I'm interested to see if he straightened out this year or that was genetic
