Of course, he won't be legal as we are antler restricted county. But this deer is every bit of 3 or 4 years old, and has horrible genetics. Wife wants to shoot it for her first buck, but told her he wasn't legal. What do you do about deer like this? The law we meant to give deer a chance to mature, but then you end up with some of these inevitably that mess up the whole gene pool. He was just like this last year as well.

Nothing you can do and a 3 yr old isn't mature. I agree on the 3 isn't mature. I should have put that differently. I have been watching this deer for the past 2 seasons and now this one. No change between last year and now in antler production. 2 seasons ago he was quite a bit smaller, but the same antlers. He is probably a 4 year old. I just don't want him to breed anymore does.

Best answer is explain the situation to the game warden. When he understands and knows you know what your talking about he may agree to look the other way. You will have to process it yourself so it is not checked.

Shoot him high between the eyes and spread the antlers apart.

First off, stop thinking you have any control over the genetics of the deer on your hunting grounds. Second off, he's not a legal deer, so what are we even discussing?

He finally grew a bro time this year on that side though. Doesn't mean it can't be an injury. If a deer damages the antler pedicle, while shedding or fighting, it can effect it throughout its life. I've seen "culls" have broken skulls that healed up and they had jacked up antlers year after year. Taking one buck won't change genetics on your place anyway. You can voice your opinion to the warden and see what he thinks.

I has one like that where I hunt. Watched him for 3 painful years before he was finally wide enough to shoot and finally took him.
