Who has one, and how is the trigger? Auto Loaders are kinda picky about ammo, and ftf can come at the wrong time. This bad boy holds 10 rounds and could shoot any ammo you may find laying around. They are expensive, but I think worth it. Would like to hear how the trigger is off the shelf.

I've yet to shoot a S&W revolver with a bad trigger. My favorite pistols are the Smith K-22 and the Model 48. Haven't shot the ten round 617 but if I did I'd probably own one of them also. Their accuracy is right up there with the best of them and there's allot to be said about dumping a cylinder of empties into a coffee can instead of having to pick them up off the ground. With the exception of my Model 41 which I don't shoot anymore I own no 22 auto pistols. Pricey yes but it will last through several generations.

This group may not look like much.

But it was shoot with this pistol at 100 yards, 8 3/8ths Model 48.

The 100 dollar bill is the bet made by my water hauler that I couldn't put 6 rounds into a paper plate at 100 yards with a pistol.

I had that exact model HWY_Man ..... I had a 48 22mag and a k22 master piece(it was in box) and like the young idiot I was I sold them to the local highschool baseball coach.

Both had target trigger & target hammer and were superb- They are at the top of my "wish I still had" list.

I'll prolly go with it. Prolly be getting rid of a Buckmark. It's got the best trigger of any auto loader pistol I ever shot. But, it won't shoot the same ammo as my Marlin bolt .22.

You will be hard pressed to find any 22 auto that won't have FTF issues with the cheap bulk ammo. You will regret getting rid of the Buckmark if that's the reason. I have about 6 different brands including the Buckmark and a very sweet S&W 622.

Thought so. I've had two. We shoot so many snakes at our place you really need something at hand all the time. There's nothing wrong with the Buckmark, I just don't need it and when I get the 617 I'll never shoot it. I really need something I can put decent ammo in and not worry about it. I'm liking the 10 shot capacity of the 617.

Never used it, but about to start. Another reason for the 617. Rattle snakes are getting thick.

Be careful with the S&W 617. They are not designed to be dry-fired.

Try to tote around a handgun with the barrel length you desire, see how if carries in&out of the truck, the ATV, climbing over a fence, loading sacks of corn in a feeder.

Snake/rat shot out a 22 isn't that effective, and some people have trouble hitting a silver dollar at 6-8 ft.

S&W makes a fine handgun, but if I were buying one of their revolvers I would look for a pre-safety model.

You might consider a Ruger Single 6 with both 22LR & 22WM cylinders...

You might also consider a 38 special, lot more choices...

Revolvers of 6 inch or longer I find more comfortable in a cross-draw. Bending, squatting or getting in and out of the truck are a breeze.

No argument there, but I am left handed and actually prefer a shoulder holster for "ranch/handy work". You and I are a couple years past middle age. Some of these younger fellows are stout enough to use a spring loaded wrist holster.
cheers

Well that being left handed kind of hurts ya on the cross draw and a vehicle. You need one of the Aussie Helux's. Have to say there's allot going for a good shoulder rig.

I use a Diamond D Custom Leather, Guide holster. It's molded for my Glock 22. I really like this holster. My pistol is really secure, not cumbersome as on the hip and right at the ready. Won't be a perfect fit, but the barrel length of the 617 I'm thinking about should work ok with this holster.

I couldn't say how many S&W revolvers I have had, but I can say that ZERO of them had a trigger that was less than excellent. I think that was what brought me to S&W revolvers in the first place.

No issues with the older ones, this one had it's 52nd birthday recently and saw 28 years of duty. (Dad's service revolver) I have an older K frame .22, sweet gun. Wasn't sure about the newer revolvers. I'll get the 617.

It has a look of experience and competence. What model? I'm guessing 15, but with little confidence.

Always heard it referred to as a K-38 Masterpiece, it does have a "K" as the leading character in the serial number.

I've got one, it's great--get the speed loaders. Model 41, get it also just for fun. Use them for their purpose.

Yes, both it and the 41. And the buck mark. You can't go wrong-- but don't dry fire it.

The Buckmark I have is super accurate and has a great trigger, just don't want to buy different ammo than what I shoot in my .22 rifle. Also, I kinda like to burn a couple of hundred rounds at the range each outing. Good to hear from someone that has one. About $700. new?
