How often do guns need lube and what are the signs they need lube?

I like to run my ar's wet, well lubed. Moly grease on the locking lugs and synthetic oil for everywhere else. The worse thing is running one dry. If you are seeing scratches or worn anodizing you need more lube. Don't forget the gas rings inside the bolt.
One shot is all it should take.

I've shot thousands and thousands of rounds never touching the rings with lube and only using CLP. I lock the bolt back add some lube charge it a few times and go to town. People like to turn lube into a competition of who uses the most off the wall crazy lube techniques it really isn't that in depth just add some lube and shoot.

You can run them dry all the time and many do.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

ok Sapper go take your nap I don't take naps but I have used chapstick on an M4 bolt in the desert and it performed flawlessly. No need to use the same oil a damn Indy race car uses.

The more lube you slather on, the more dirt it attracts.

Any good lube and keep them pretty wet. They don't need frequent lubing and cleaning.

If they are run suppressed, they need very frequent cleaning and lubrication. The carbon build up is insane.

3-in-1 Sewing Machine Oil lightly applied after cleaning; can't stand the wet sloppy guns in real life; makes them dirt and dust magnets;
Clean, lube wear points lightly, repeat often
