I use the same oil as the air force uses on the F22 Raptor and if your not using you know nothing about weapons lubing.

If you have a NiBo BCG then you dont have to lube it as much as you think. Wet the BCG with ANY type of lubricant after you clean it and be done with it if it is a Ni BO. It wont need much lube.
If it is not a Ni BO BCG then I would lube up your BCG really well before each range session and maybe even lube it up once or twice while at the range. Typically when I am at the range I will just give a few squirts of Ballistol directly on the BCG as needed.
Doesnt matter what type of oil as long as you just keep it wet and clean.

If they are run suppressed, they need very frequent cleaning and lubrication. The carbon build up is insane. Does this apply to piston AR the same as DI AR?

I've shot thousands and thousands of rounds never touching the rings with lube and only using CLP. I lock the bolt back add some lube charge it a few times and go to town. People like to turn lube into a competition of who uses the most off the wall crazy lube techniques it really isn't that in depth just add some lube and shoot. ^^^^THIS^^^^ When I finish a build, I give it a good douche. I let it drool out of seams, pin locations, etc. as it's designed to penetrate. Wipe down exterior, run a bore snake thru barrel after this and shoot it to break it in. CLP and shoot it.... CLP and shoot it MORE.... I do perform a good disassembly and cleaning after a few hundred rounds, then just CLP and shoot it!

3-in-1 Sewing Machine Oil lightly applied after cleaning; can't stand the wet sloppy guns in real life; makes them dirt and dust magnets;
Clean, lube wear points lightly, repeat often X2 A wet gun is asking for dirt!
