Acquired additional land, has a barn, electric pole and meter. A well also.
I spoke to land owner, he said I could hook it up in my name. He said to contact new era electric in Athens.
A few questions. 1. General cost to start up with meter and pole already in place. 2. What does this run y'all per year, we do not have a camp over there. Will just use time to time. 3. Do y'all make leasee's pay per year?
Who knows about wells? I looked down there and water about 25 feet down, well built iMarch 1918. Anything I should look for or avoid?
Thank You

Our electric runs about $25 a month when we are not there, during season it can fluctuate from $35 to $45 depending how many are in and out of the gate. We are on Coleman County Electric Cooperative. When we started it was a deposit down and that was it. We have a cabin with a fridge, freezer that run all of the time. TV's radios lights etc for when we are there.

wood county coop charges me a flat rate for the meter and bills actual use at lake fork. I pay online, you should be able to set up the acct. then check billing/pay online. wcec (coop) also sends me a bill to the ranch up here.
I normally pay 100.00 at a time, about every 3 months.

Compared to the other costs of a lease your electric bill will be a rounding error...

I use Jack County co-op and it is pretty much for the trailer only and every now and then the BoomBox gets to rocking & rolling They send the bill to our Dallas residence and I think there is a flat $7.00 a month plus usage, usually around $17.00 a month total.

We had a power pole and breaker box ready to go at our old place in Throckmorton County. Power co-op had to come out and put in a transformer and set a meter. I think they charged us around $800 to do that. This was in 2011.
But it sure was nice having AC and just leaving your groceries in the fridge/freezer from weekend to weekend.

18 years ago, I bought a meter and pole for my ranch in Val Verde County. Cost me $75 and Rio Grande Electric set the pole while bringing electricity to my cabin at no charge. Went years with $11/mo. elec bill. Now, RGEC has added an "Availability Charge" to my bill which is now $54/mo. I run 1 refrigerator, year round. There are several hundred wind generator windmills within 5 miles of the ranch. I am trying to figure out how to switch providers..

Check to see if the local electric co-op adds a higher account fee for customers who don't use much power. Houston County Co-op started doing this several years ago for deer hunters and others who use very little power in an effort to cover maintenance costs. If your local co-op follows this practice, don't let it be known to them that you're using power for a deer camp to avoid paying the higher account fee.

I have a ranch on that same coop out of Athens, called Trinty Valley Electric Coop. My shop has a $25./month minumim. They did not charge me anything to set one pole and transformer. The power line was already near by. If you set more than 1 pole then you pay. Just built a new home out there and they ran underground to house from pole to house at no charge, but they did not have to go far.
