79,000,000 to a skiing and back packing company in Utah. They "say" they share the same values.

The fact that it's a Utah parent company is a positive sign. Also, Sierra has been very static for a number of years. They've let Berger muscle in on a market niche that they basically owned. Time tells all, of course.

Company only owns ski clothes and blackhawk so not sure if this is good or bad.

Dang... and I have really been liking their prohunters.

I called them a few times and the overwhelming impression I got is that sierra is run by a bunch of old sticks in the mud wouldn't hurt my feelings to bad if something happened to them.

I love their bullets and will always buy them. I have had great luck with the Tipped Matchkings and gamekings.

we get caught up in all the "new" stuff with all the $$$ marketing which goes with it RE; Hornady. Berger too, as mentioned.

Which is why other bullet makers had better keep up, or get left behind. I'm a Sierra lover, but the fact of the matter is this is America, and we do capitalism as best as any country. New offerings from Hornady and Berger is great for shooters, we reap the benefits. If Sierra doesn't keep up, with the two, then that's their fault.

Sierra has given us some new offerings in the last few years, but not at the pace of Hornady and Berger. People are waking up to Ballistic Coefficient, and Hornday and Berger are making hunting bullets with a high BC, Sierra has not been.

Agree. Ive been a sierra fan for years, it was hard for me to mostly move away from them to Berger and Hornady. But the difference is not even close. I happy to read they have new products in the works.

Maybe for hunting bullets but their last release of mk has been phenomenal. The 110gr 6mm is flat bad to the bone.

Case in point of my statement "Some new offerings". As is the case with the monster 197 gr 7mm SMK. Berger made the 195 EOL, and Sierra one upped them.

But, yes, they've not kept up with Berger's, and Hornady's BC in their hunting line.

Historically, my view was Berger makes great BC, some picky seating depth, and a fairly consistent meplate, and a high price. Sierra makes a decent BC, pretty consistent weight, but damn reliable once the bullet hits hide. And Sierra has always been very affordable. Hornady, in my view, takes some of the best of Berger, and best of Sierra, and incorporates all of it in their bullets, with the more affordable price. I'm a big Hornady fan for those reasons.

Used those prohunters in 30-06 from mid 70's to early 2000's when had to give up hunting due to health.
