I have a pair of Steiner 10X42's. If you are not going to be hiking around and weight is not an issue I would go with 10X50's. I like the Steiners' and they are supper rugged, but I also have a pair of Leupolds that are 20+ years old that still get the job done. I would not go with any higher magnification unless your using a tripod as they can really hard to hold still. Had a pair of 12X's and could see my heart beating while looking through them.

I would take quality over magnification...
Also remember when you are at a store/location with plenty of light it can fool you. Hunting binds need to work, good when there is not a lot of light available

10x is great in the deer blind where you can get steady. Out and about it is a little trickier. I try to find a rest or get seated. This last hunt that was often not possible because many times I was on a horse.
Yes, quality is really the key for all optics.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

got a pair of 12x50 Vortex Diamondbacks that I love. I checked out the 10x42 and 10x50 Vortex Diamondbacks at Cabelas. I will probably buy one or the other this season. Good feedback on this thread Thanks everyone.

Yes, quality is really the key for all optics. 90% of usage will be sitting in an elevated blind Thanks

I don't know, I like at least 12x I find it hard to size up a buck with anything less. I want to try 16x but spent to much on the pair I have now 12x50 vortex.

like scopes, glass trumps magnification... 10x top of the line glass will reveal much more detail than cheap 15x

8X42 if you are hunting in the woods. 10X42 if you are hunting open areas.

10x42 would be my choice, and since the glass of the top dog manufacturers is all plenty good, i’d get the physically smallest. Of course, if you don’t wear them around your neck, I suppose that won’t matter to you too much.

10 x 42, highest quality glass you can swing. When I get past 10 power they are hard to steady and I can't field judge an animal as well through a slightly bouncy image. If they are for use on the move I prefer 8x.
