Does she bark treed on the squirrels? So far she does if she chases them up the tree, sometime she points the tree (I assume that's a hot trail), other times she get real birdy at the tree and then double backs on the trail several times then back to the tree. She is only a pup and I am learning.

Primarily this dog will be for dove and small water duck retrieval, secondly as a blood tracking dog, and thirdly I would like to use it on released upland birds. As an upland and blood dog, I would like it to be close working and not long ranging. I understand all working dogs will have a lot of drive, but I do not want a dog with endless energy that will not be able to function as an indoor family pet as well. When I was deciding I wrote those things down and more in a list. Then I researched each of the possible breeds and found 4 or 5 breeds that closely fit my needs and narrowed that down to maybe 3. When I was looking for my next dog at the time I actually was set on the right pup from the right parents more than I was looking for a pup from a specific breed. For me it was Vizsla, DD, or WPG. Pudelpointer could have made my list and would have no problem having one in the future for a second hunting dog, but I just did not find much about them at the time and had never seen one until years later. I waited three years to find the "right" first versatile dog and it turned out to be a Vizsla that adopted me. Don't rule out the Vizsla for your needs either. They are normally close working and have a need to be "with" their human family, not outside and and meant to be an inside dog. And of course can handle the other stuff your wanting.

Wow. Those are mixed pictures of my two dogs and just a tip of the iceberg. For example I also hunt fur. Dash combined is SHR Vermilion Dash Rip Rock JHA NAVHDA NA Pz I. And he can look pretty too, but hunting comes first so not sure if I will ever extend the current titles or finish the others. Blaze my other Vizsla is his aunt. She is now old, blind, and cant hear well, but happy in retirement. She was hunted blind for a couple years though. My dog's Sire and Grand Sire was Am Ch Egri I Like Ike CDX MH AX OAJ VC ROM. Dash's Dam was Am Gr/DC Egri Vermilion Vlyhtr Carter SH NAVHDA NA Pz I. Why I say take the time to look for the right pup from an accomplished line, not just any pup from the right breed. No matter what the breed. Then one will have a foundation for choosing the next dog and so on. Dash Best of Winners Blaze and The true Blind Retrieve

After this evenings water work training, Judee was acting like a baby and kept standing at the door, so I took her to the pasture to run it off of her. She disappeared in a small group of trees, found her locked up on a rabbit, picked up horse apples to flush the rabbit, she held on the flush. Don't know how she has all that energy after swimming. She is a nut.

Does a PoodlePointer shed?
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

Pudelpointer, And yes but very little. The long coated dogs actually shed less than the slicks.

Can someone explain what is a DD? Deutsch Drahthaar. That is as long as we're talking about the versatile breed of dogs! They are the German version of a German wirehaired pointer.

One of my buddies arrowed a buck with his bow yesterday at dark and could not find him. Gut shot. Put the young Pudelpointer on his trail today.

Great recovery! And congrats to the young man.
Have you been working with him on blood trailing? Did he pick up the trail right away? How long of a track to the buck?

Mostly natural but we have done a little tracking. Deer went about 300 yards and laid down. Hunter did not pressure him. I only saw one spot where there was 4 or 5 drops of blood. Dog put his nose down for a bit then started quartering in a tight pattern then left once he established the track. Pretty much went straight to the deer. After the recovery I looked at the gps and by the time I got to the deer, the dog had went back and forth between me and the deer 4 times. In other words he came and got me.

SB, that's awesome and I bet that young man is all jacked up after killing a buck like that, congrats to him and your pup.
Judee will also be working on tracking deer this fall also. It seems with these dogs they take chasing fur seriously.

Snipe type shore bird on the coast with Judee on point, by the time I waded over to her the bird flushed. You can see the bird flushing and Judee waiting for a shot to go off. She loved the salt water and wade fishing. She is a mess.
