We went to the lease this weekend and did some night hunting with thermals. We tried something new this trip. I didn't get any pics of our set up, which I should have. We hunted at night out of a Polaris crew cab (2 row, 4 person). We hung slings from the top of the frame of the Polaris and the slings supported out rifles in the ready and shouldered position. We were able to drive around and scan for pigs and such while driving almost all night. We ended up taking 2 pigs. We recovered this one. When it happened, it happened fast. We were driving through some rough terrain, and I was scanning with the rifle in my shoulder. I saw a bedded pig, and yelled stop. The pig jumped up and went to running directly away from me. I sent one round from a 6.8 AR, and he went down and was screaming. The pig was anchored from the rear, and he turned sideways giving me a head shot. I sent a second round right behind his ear and he was done. You can see on the pigs back side some white sticking out. This is where the bullet exited on the first shot. It broke the entire rear section of the pig, as his rear section of his back and legs went fully loose. I shot him from about 50-60 yards, and it all happened in about 5-7 seconds. They other guys didn't know what I was shooting at or what we were stopping for until they heard the squealing of the first shot. It was a lot of fun, and we have a new style of how we thermal night hunt with the slings on the Polaris.

I've thought about putting a gun mount on my Pioneer, Rat Patrol style. That would be sweet. Just don't seem to come across many opportunities to shoot from the buggy.

What bullet are you shooting from your 6.8 Chad? It wasn't my rifle actually. But the 6.8 rifle was shooting a 110 grain Sierra Pro Hunter bullet. My buddy had my 300 blk out rifle behind me shooting the 125 SST's out of it. We both were hunting, and switching rifles at the time. The 6.8 had a new Pulsar thermal (I think the XP38 or XQ38) and my blk out has a FLIR RS32 on it. The pulsar is much clearer and has a cleaner image and is very impressive. But the FLIR has a much larger field of view to see more in the screen. I like both, but give the features and clarity to the Pulsar.

Night hunting has got to be the way to go, especially at this time of the year.
A clear conscience is often the sign of a fuzzy memory.
