Another hunting season will arrive soon. I have started to eat up the rest of the deer meat from last year. I use freezer paper, and have found that it will last 12 months without any problems. I like to have last years game consumed, before the deer rifle season.

Freezer paper is great as long as it is wrapped in saran wrap first. My lovely wife got me a pretty heavy duty Food Saver that I really like up

I shoot a lot of animals (including several axis, black buck, fallow, etc), so I give away about 6-8 deer of meat every year. This allows me to rotate out old stock from the freezer to friends that are happy to have meat that was from last season.
Everything in my freezer is October 2016 or newer. It is about time for a another big give away, my brother is ready to kill a lot of critters and I will need room for fresh meat.

Good tight package with Saran Wrap first, and then freezer paper. Will last two years easy, with no freezer burn. With 3 kids and 5 grandkids, I never have to worry about meat spoiling!!! smile

yep, just had that discussion with the wife last night, especially with remaining various types sausage. Most of ours is vacuum sealed but used butcher paper for the first 40 or so years without any issues (but rarely did we have much left more than 5-6 months old).

Food saver is the way to go! I process everything at home so the kids wipe out the pre-made sausage patties and burgers first. We have 3 back straps maybe 2 pounds of stew cuts left from the 7 deer my son, daughter and I took. Oldest thing in the box are some rainbow trout we caught in December 2016. It's re-stocking time.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

This, you guys recommended it on one of my packing post. My deep freezer in the shop is cleaned out and ready. I have took what little meat I have left and moved it to the inside freezer and gave some to family. I still have some big briskets and stuff in there but I made sure I have my wild game section ready.

Change the way you package and store it then! As I type this I'm eating ground venison from 2014, just browned in a skillet with salt and pepper, and it's perfectly fine, tastes exactly like the package from January 2017 that I opened few days ago. Vacuum sealing works great!

Except that it's difficult to stack. Once I got my Food Saver I started vacuum sealing everything. I went back to using butcher paper on most stuff. I use the round game bags for ground meat. Any other small game goes into vacuum seal bag.

Eating ground axis that's 1+ year old weekly. Just a few pounds left.

WT backstrap tonight.

'Gotta move the little, manual defrost freezer over from the barn, since the less than 2 years old frost-free Frigidaire crapped out, for the second time, a couple months ago. The little thing hasn't so much as hiccupped in over a decade.

I also need to buy a big chest freezer (manual defrost) 'cause I'm confident I'm bringing home a big bull elk the first part of November!

When we arrived at our cabin in July to build a deck we had a horrible surprise. Apparently a severe thunder storm on the weekend of the fourth caused lightening to strike my transformer and killed the power to the cabin. As we arrived on the 20th sufficient time transpired to turn my 3 deer and a hog in our refrig and chest freezer into a a rotten mass of stench and maggots. I had the answer to my remaining meat from last season but now I am hoping I can save the appliances from the terrible stench that has penetrated the insides. Washed with bleach, ammonia, Lysol and left all kinds of air fresheners in the units and throughout the cabin

Right now?...I have 2 frozen pizzas.

My freezer blew the fuse in my garage last week and I didn't notice for almost a week. Lost all the meat I had, about 10 lbs of ground venison and another 5-6 lbs of summer sausage. Pissed me off.

Put baking soda in them. Played that game with a turkey in a freezer that got unplugged in 100 degree heat. 2 weeks but got the smell out.

Still have some of last year's elk in sausage, bacon-burger and steaks. Will most likely unwrap the steaks and vacuum seal them before Labor Day weekend. Still have a few packages of axis and whitetail bacon burger as well.

My buddy's mom left some fish they caught in my freezer and tree limb fell and unplugged the trailer cord. Turned it back on and let it freeze chipped around the outside and removed it all in one block. Poured Pine-o-pine and Clorox in it closed the door and left. Came back and let the fumes out then chipped that frozen mixture out. Worked pretty good.
