Heck, all this time I thought still hunting was about how long you could sit still in a heated blind looking at a feeder 78 yards away and not having to open a beer or take a whiz or send a text.

Don't have enough property. We've got 100 acres and only 15-20 has any brush to speak of, and those areas border other properties who have deer blinds set up not too far from the fence lines. My best bet is to be in my blind where I can see most of the tree lines.

I started still hunting in my mid 30s. It is a thrill to have a deer walk right passed you within yards and never know you were there. There is no greater feeling of being a true hunter and one with nature than in that moment.

Glad to see I am not the only one who enjoys hunting this way. Last year I had two does walk up from behind me and passed with 20' of me and never saw me. I was hunkered down in a cedar brush pile watching a creek crossing at the time. The funny thing was they were down wind of me and never spooked because of smelling me. I got to thinking about that later and it dawned on me that after hunting season I store all my gear in a true cedar chest. I let both go by and enjoyed watching them for a good 30l minutes eating acorns along the creek. As far as I was concerned it was a successful hunt that day.

The payoff is greater for me when I get out on foot and stalk through the trees, but I do both - blind and still hunting

I prefer to spot and stalk, but it's not the most effective way to hunt whitetails.
It's the only way I hunt elk, mule deer, antelope and sheep
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
