I was going to say check the muffler. Glad it got taken care of.

I must have gotten lucky with the Poulans I have here at the house.

I will be adding a Stihl to the line up here eventually though.

In my experience, which is not as extensive as some of you, I have become a fan of Stihl. I had a few Poulans, and they worked pretty well, though they were obviously not as well made as Stihl. I started off with a Stihl Farm Boss 029 at least 15 years ago, and still have it and use it. Along the way, the Poulans I bought and used have died. So when the last Poulan quit working right, as I was cutting up a tree back in Louisiana, I gave it to the guy working with me. Finished the job with my brother's Stihl and went home and got a Stihl MS-180c. I mushed it with my tractor once, but they fixed it and I'm still using it too. Bad gas or not, I pull the rope on either one a couple of times, and we are off and running. I have one Echo chainsaw, a polesaw, and if I use it often it runs fine. Let it sit up a month or two, and it's tough to fire up.

I am firmly a Stihl guy now.

Geez Louise...a dirt dobber. Who would have thunk it?

Stihl chain saw and Yamaha outboard motors---------- I thought that was common knowledge.

I concur. My twin mercs are doing alright still but when they pop it will be white cowling 300s.

Great advice!..... Did it and cleaned out what looked like the starting of a dirt dobber nest and it cranks right up - Thanks Guys!

Dirty dobbers have always amazed me at their ability to find the most awkward places to build a nest and cause problems.

They weren't treated overly well, but neither Stihl we've had has been better than anything else. I run all Echo now and they're on par with Stihl IMO.
