Can anyone provide insight on the deer prospects in Erath County just north of Stephenville?

I hunt northern Erath County near Thurber. Plenty of deer. Only a couple of pigs left on our property.
This is the biggest buck that I've had on camera. Still waiting for the day I see him in person.

Different parts of the county hold different densities and quality of deer. Some areas will have a lot of deer and others a mile or two away will have far less. From what I've seen there are plenty of hogs in most of Erath.

If you're in the real hilly area that is mainly rock and choked with cedar with little forage it will be tougher hunting, conversely if you're in an area that has a decent amount of hardwoods and pastures you will be fine up

Like most other places, it will depend on the habitat and the hunting pressure around you.

Good luck.

Born and raised in Erath County, like said above parts of the county are better than others. You are in a good area if your close to Morgan Mill, the deer density is not as high as some of the counties around it but I have seen numerous 150"+ bucks taken over the years. A friend of mine has a 170" on his wall he shot outside of Dublin on a 80 acre dairy.

It is pretty good overall. Pretty good population overall, and I have seen good bucks taken from all over the county, and have seen great bucks taken in probably 70% of the county. How far north of the Ville are you?

I was on a lease near Lingleville. The deer numbers were not high, and work was required to harvest deer, but it did happen. It was mostly a meat lease. The antler restrictions really did help out, and it was getting better. But it was not better for us hunters, as we lost the lease. Like anywhere, it also made a difference who was hunting around us. I would recommend checking it out further.

I have hunted Erath county for past 15 years...decent size N Texas bucks...a good one is 160+lbs 150+". Generally good genetics in the area probably < 40% are culls. However, it's rare to see a buck over 4-1/2 or a inside beam > 20". Up by Bluff Dale, doe/buck ratio is scary low and not sure why, we haven't taken a doe for 10+ years just for that reason.

Looks like I'm about 10 - 15 miles West of Morgan Mill. Thanks.

Seems like I have that issue everywhere I hunt these days.

I live in Stephenville. I had a "Honey-Hole" up 108 right behind the Hannibal store.. There were some great deer there.. I have a place by Morgan Mill I have access to and it is covered with Deer.
