Just wondering how the acorn crop is looking in NE Texas. Been laid up with a broken leg and have not had the chance to run out to the lease.

Not in NE Texas but Bowie. Looked at the oaks around the house and saw very few. The hunting night be a little better but if we have a bad Winter, the deer night suffer.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Spanish oaks are puny. That's a good thing. Liveoaks look pretty full.

Western Wilson/Atascosa county the oaks are loaded but they are about pea size right now, so looks like the deer may be avoiding the corn feeders around the opening of archery season.

Llano county looks to have a good crop. Persimmons are going to be ripe very soon, lots of those.

We saw only a couple on the ground. I know its early but they look a little thinner than this same time last year.

Took another look yesterday at my place South of Bowie. Saw some but not a whole lot. Being a pessimist, should see lots of hogs at the feeders. Pessimist? The hogs always get the feeders quicker than the deer.

Acorns look to be a bust in Travis county, I checked out a dozen mature live oaks and probably couldn't have filled a yeti tumbler with the all the acorns I saw. Deer aught to be hitting the feeders a little better this year, after the acorn deluge last year, the corn just piled up and rotted.

The hogs always get the feeders quicker than the deer. Not if you shoot them every time they show up. I was having that issue till I started busting them and now I haven't had one on cam in over a month.

If I lived there, I might be able to do it. I don't shoot after about the middle of September so can't control a lot. I shot 4 of them and the Grandsons got 3 more during deer season last year and still saw them on cams when I wasn't there. Due to the light acorn crop, I expect to see more of them this year.
18 year old predatory Grandsons went 3 times during the off season this year. They baited with corn and rice bran around a couple of small water holes that the hogs had pretty well destroyed. They sat up all night. The hogs never showed.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

No acorns to speak of on our place in Lee county. Got a bumper crop of mesquite beans though.

Only seen a few small ones on the ground and they weren't really noticeable in the white oak trees at the property in Ratcliff this past weekend. I'm hoping this is the normal pattern?
Go get in the woods
