I'm curious for those of you that say you up the spin time right before season, which season are you referring too rifle/bow? Also, if it's before bow do have a lot of oak trees on your property? From my limited experience if you're upping the spin time right before bow season and have a lot of acorns on the ground you're just wasting corn. Last year I didn't touch my timer and was still having to shovel out molded corn by the end of October because nothing was touching it.

When I hunted areas with a lot of acorns, I monitored the corn under the feeder. If there was still some on the ground after dark I would slow the throw rate down. Areas that had less acorns I sped it up in Aug/Sept just to give them more of a reason to come in more often.

I spin once a day - 7:30 AM - for 3 seconds during the off-season to keep the deer in the area. Once dove season starts I will add an evening feed time - 5:30 or 4:30 after time changes - for the same duration. It doesn't seem to make a big impact that I don't feed in evening during off-season, and I don't dump tons of corn even during season. I still have lots of deer on cameras both morning and afternoon.

Not sure if I can prove it, but it seems from my cameras that when I feed at night I get lots more nocturnal raccoon activity with sitting corn attracting them. Will also add that since adding cages to feeders my corn bill has dropped to about 1/3 and my 440# feeders will now last several months between fills, as opposed to 3 or 4 weeks before cages.

It depends on the rainfall, this year I am only running 3 seconds twice a day because there is so many groceries for them to eat out there. If it was dry and no natural food then I would bump it up to 5-8 seconds twice a day depending on deer activity.

Usually during the summer when it is real hot the deer move at night, first light or right before sunset, that is usually scratch

So I set my timers to go off when the deer are moving to minimize the amount that go to the squirrels, coons and birds.

I always set my morning feed to go off right at sunrise (first light) was set at 6:00 am, just changed it last weekend to 6:30 am. My afternoon setting was set at 8:00 pm, changed to 7:30.

When hunting season starts, am stays the same, right before legal shooting time, afternoon about 3 hours before last legal shooting time. Yes I crank up the feeding time during hunting season grin

I have noticed at multiple places in central TX and west TX even though it's very green the deer are still hitting the corn daily but mostly at night.

Mine goes up around this time of year.. I will have acorns like crazy and the corn still won't go to waste.. but mainly I hunt off the protein feeder once the acorns drop that heavy they still choose to come into protein

I've considered a second feed in the AM about an hour after the first but I was always worried I'd have deer at the feeder and it would scare them off. Anyone had that happen?

Some deer will stand there while corn bounces off their back and some will almost break their neck running. The ones that run will almost always come back in my experience.

agree, they get used to having the feeder go off, even if they are standing under/next to it. It might spook them at first but they will come back in pretty quickly.

this time of year, I have mine set to throw for 2 seconds twice a day (about 2# of corn each throw) and I leave my timers set the same year around (winter time) for 7:00-7:20 am (east TX earlier/west TX later) and 5:00-5:20 pm they don't know the time changes in March & Oct ... I do tend to lengthen the throw time to 5-8 seconds a few weeks leading up to season, through the end of season ...

peep 20 min prior to daylight, noon, and around 4:30. Most of my deer are shot between noon and 2 pm. banana

I Feed Indian Corn. The deer love it and all the colors make them stay at the feeder longer.

Like others said, I've had deer sit and stare up at feeder waiting. Once conditioned, even those that are spooked with only run a few yards, and then come right back to graze.

About 20 minutes before sunrise and about an hour and half before sunset. Anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds, changing to shorter times between hunts and during the time when I have a hunter it's longer.

I have really good luck with a quick second feed in the Am around 0800. The deer that come in at light eat up all the first feed. Seems like the bucks that coming roaming by mid morning come in and feed for a minute instead of just passing by.

During off season 3 seconds at @ sunrise....during season I up it to 6-8 seconds only on the am spin. Evening is about 4:00 for 2 seconds. I found that if whitetail can eat at night they WILL eat at night. My deer are like millennials - rarely up at dawn - they seem to wander out of bed between 9-11am :-)
