Didn't get any velvet pictures of a mature buck here in NE Texas for a while until now! I knew this area had to have one running around due to the fact that I am the only one who has had permission to hunt it since the landowner has had the property (30 years) when I found this buck on my camera I couldn't believe what I was seeing... this is the largest free range whitetail that I've ever pursued

Nice buck! But he looks young... With free range you are taking a chance he won't get any older if you pass him.

he's older than you think, you can't really tell because his whole body isn't showing but in other photos I've seen of him he looks older

Once the rut starts there's no telling where he'll go. Get him early if you can.

That's true however based on what I can tell about the property is eventhough he might disappear for a while I still have confidence he would come back through there during the rut based on the healthy heard of does that are on that property plus I got this picture of him close to where a scrape line pops up every year so I have high hopes.. really it all comes down to the buck and all the variables that come with it. Some bucks are travelers some are home bodies, either way I'm sure there will be great memories chasing this guy!

You can't tell his age based on the picture. He's chewing and half of his body is cut off. Youre making your judgement based on what? Someone posts a pic of the biggest deer he's ever seen on the place and you instantly think 3 year old? That makes sense.

I bet the OP will post more pics and it will show a 5+ yr old buck.

This is a better shot of his body personally I think he's got plenty of maturity on him.. I definitely think he's past the 3 year old mark, I've shot quite a few 2 and three year olds and they didn't show a sagging gut and sway back like this guy does.. I don't know where you hunt at Deerhunter61 but most people here in North East Texas would kill to have a deer like this on the property they are hunting.. this guy is a free range deer that I know hasn't been put on any protein feeds or anything like that because I know that none of the neighbors that surround the property hunt or feed deer, all they do is run cattle.. I respect your opinion sir but I believe you may be mistaken... sorry I don't know why my pictures keep going sideways

That deer is definitely 5+ based on your new pic. I hope you get him and let us know. His beams look even longer in the new pic! Man what a beautiful buck!!

Again this year like last, all deer are going to look at least a year and usually a couple of years older than they are by antler and body size.

That said, you are an autonomous hunter. You do what floats your boat. A buck that size in east Texas low fence is living on borrowed time, and is a trophy anywhere.

With that main beam length and looking at the side view of him I would bet you he's 5 or older.
