States watching it on Netflix
Like the show. Don't agree with the host on everything, but it's much more enjoyable to watch than 95% of the shows on tv.
Love that he does not promote his gear our tout skill or ability, it's just a guy out in the woods hunting
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I kinda wonder if he really thinks that stuff is good, or he's just pretending to give his prep techniques credibility for his book sales.

I kind of like the show personally. It's much better than the numerous shows and hosts who park their butts in a tree stand, over a food plot, and tell everyone how hard they're hunting. If you put those types out on a wilderness hunt, with a topo map and compass, they would be totally clueless and lost as a goose.
Shockey, Meat Eater, Randy Newberg's show Fresh Tracks, and Eastman's most of the time are really the only ones that I'd consider watchable. The rest, including Waddell ( a fraud BTW), I can't turn off quick enough.

Netflix renewed him for some new shows, but I'm not sure when they are coming out. I listen to his podcasts also.

Meateater has been a good show over the years. I wouldnt have the stuff he is eating. I am really starting to like the coyote hunting shows more and more. Coyote hunting looks like a lot of fun and these shows can really teach you a lot if you pay attention.

It's probably the only hunting show I'll sit down and watch. Its cool how he shows meat preparations and cooking recipes.
Other hunting shows are pretty much the same: - Go to a private land lease on a guided hunt - Tag the game - Endorse your sponsors - The End

"Some people think possum isn't a top notch meat, but I'm here to tell you they are wrong. If done right, possum meat can rival the tablefare at any of the world's finest restaurants." My grandpa loved to eat possum, that and soft shell turtles. That being said, he was the son of Czech immigrants and grew up on a hog farm in Sealy and lived thru the depression and was in France and Germany during the invasion, for what it's worth I think that part of it is over-emphasized for sure, but I think he is the real deal hunter. I won't agree with him in every aspect like trophy hunting, but I do think he is very educated and has a strong code of ethics. And if he is skilled enough in the culinary arts to make stuff like that taste good, awesome. My skills as far as game meat end past wrapping backstrap in bacon and grilling it, so I'm no authority on what's edible or not. I'm not, however, gonna eat things like coyote, aoudad, bobcat, etc. if left to my own devices

Great show, I've read his books. I'm a fan. He's an honest hunter. Not to much of a trophy hunter. He is ethical and well spoken.
Someone else mentioned it. I'm so sick of watching shows where the hunter gets a guide and all he really has to do is sit in a blind and make a shot. Then he talks all about his gear.
I miss Ridge Reaper.

I tried softshell turtle for the first time just last week. I won't be throwing them fools back any more, any bigger than dinner-plate size are coming home now.
I kept the cookery real basic, I just cut all the meat off the bones, cut it in small chunks, and browned them in a skillet with a little olive oil, and salt&pepper. My idea there was to give it every chance to fail, if it wasn't worth eating when cooked that simple, getting any fancier would just be polishing a turd.
It wasn't bad. It didn't blow me away, but I ate every bit of it, and definitely plan on eating it again. It had a chewy texture, kinda like frog legs, but closer to chicken than fish. I'll probably try it in a crockpot with carrots, taters and onions next.

Meat Eater was the 1st hunting show I ever sat down with intent to watch one. Now that I have the pursuit channel, I appreciate Meat eater a lot more.

My Granddad was an avid coon hunter all his life, invariably he would get a possum from time to time. He would bring it home, stick it in a cage and feed it chicken scratch for a few weeks. Once it was all plump he would slow roast it, I ate it. Been so long I don't remember how to describe it, but I didn't have to choke it down. So it must have been palatable.

.
That's what I like, he doesent talk about his gear. It's obvious he is sponsored by vortex, but he has not made any mention of his rifle, calibers, his yeti ice chests, how long of a shot he made, etc. That's what makes it refreshing

The only time I can vividly him talking about distance was on the episode when he was hunting whitetails in Arizona. All he mentioned was the shot was just about his max distance for shooting.

I am a fan of Steven Rinnella. The show is very good and his books are excellent.
Possum is actually pretty good eating, but you really have to watch for cars.

Great show, his hunting/processing beliefs differ probably from the majority on this forum, including mine, but his message is true.
His podcast with the stone glacier boys is spot on!! His comments are pretty direct but true. Kurt and Pete are real deals from a mountain perspective

I like shows that actually teach you something. When you can learn something from watching it to me that is the whole reason I am watching.
He is definitely explaining his strategy and talking about how he is approaching an animal and I like that about his show.
The Deer Society (advertisement for the extinguisher call) is also an excellent TV program and I have learned more about deer and deer behavior from watching that show and watching their videos online. I am hooked on that type of programming. In my opinion there is no more informative hunting program.
