Last fall when we(Academy) did our youth hunt at Lake Waco, we had several trail cameras set out at the various hunt stations that the Park Rangers had set up. I got one of those cameras, and I just recently cleared the memory from that camera. And.....this guy showed up....! Looks to be a 10 pointer with heavy mass....!

Nice looking deer! Would definitely be a great deer for a youth to shoot on one of those hunts.

Red, I heard that deer was found over near the Waco Wetlands area. I am not sure if it was killed by poachers or not. I have personally seen several 140"+ bucks near the river on the north side of the lake. It is a jewel over there and there is public hunting land right there. I wonder why no one hunts there. If I lived closer, I would hunt there.

I lived in the area and know of no such public deer hunting land on Lake Waco. There is some up the Bosque River I think but nothing where these BIG deer are. I may be wrong......
I know some of the farmers in that area and from what they have told me it is poacher heaven almost year around with road hunters wearing most of the deer out that venture close enough to the roads. GW in that area does a good job but criminals are criminals and will find a way to do their deed.

Yeah, that is not a I-40, it is either a D-40 or a lower model.

Yeah, where I am talking about is upon the Bosque past the 185 bridge.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

Gentlemen....it IS most definitely the Moultrie i40....what you are seeing is the editing by Photoshop to take out the gray IR color!
And....there is PUBLIC HUNTING LAND at Lake Waco which is draw only thru the Corps of Engineer Office on MONKEY RUN ROAD. Usually it is a limited hunt of about 48 spots and is archery only.
This hunt as was last year's hunt, was a special YOUTH HUNT arranged by the Park Rangers, TPWD, and the Lake Waco Corps on land that is NOT open to public hunting in the Lacy Point area of the Lake. It has a bike trail running thru the area that was closed off for this hunt, mainly because we used shotgun slugs.
This was the second year for this hunt. Last year's hunt was filmed for ACADEMY SPORTS & OUTDOORS and can be seen on the Academy.com website.
Sorry gentlemen...but hope that answers your concerns and questions! ! ! !

This was the deer that was scored over 200". The skull was found under the twin bridges on Hwy 6 and is on display at the Wetlands Office.....

All i can say is that i have cut Hay around lake Waco for mant years . And in the afternoons there were some deer that came out on the edges that totally blew my mind . Even over were everyone used to ride motorcycles and 4 wheelers before they shut that off . I loved worken over there and around the lake , allways seen some pretty cool stuff , even had a horn or two get stuck in the cutter . There used to be a big cat that would stay over by the on the right side of the bridge back up in the ceders , I didn't believe it untill i saw it walked out of a hay patch right at dark . Did n't take too long for me to get to the truck after it left .

We had the head of the lake waco corp office at our bass club meeting a week ago, and he gave us some updates on upcoming projects and news. Just to give you a heads up, one of the things he informed us about was that corp land from the marina all the was over to lacy point has just been sold to a private developer.

That land was actually sold last fall and it was mostly crop land. There is an archery only area that was south (or west) of Highway 6; they have considered some other areas at the end of Flat Rock Road also. They will probably re-designate hunting areas again during the summer of early fall.
