I use my mountain bike with a gun rack on the handlebars often for public land hunting. It's earlier, faster and quieter than hiking. It's also great for scouting areas. The hazards are spills (wear a helmet), snakes and spiderwebs.

How well does it work when packing out ? A lot depends on type of turrain i guess, back pack worked for me...

I love riding my mountain bike off road. I would do it, but I have some questionable terrain I go over with deep water, some large ruts, and some inclines. Plus, when it's cold and I'm wearing lots of clothes, I wouldn't want to sweat and then get in the stand a freeze 30 minutes later. If I hunted close to my stand, and didn't have rough terrain, I'd highly consider it.

I got a standard bike that actually fits me over the weekend. I'm going to start adding a few things and riding it around the neighborhood checking balance and weight distribution and what feels good. Then off to the land and see how it goes.

I went to the Ranger game and one of the guys that give you a ride on the bicycle cart had a couple 250ers loaded up in his and he was rolling right along. Maybe I just need to get one of those. It has a place for dead critters and passengers and apparently a good gear ratio.

scratch we had 10 speed bikes & rode trails at State Park just down the road as family outing... Steep hills made it challaging, confused2 guess person could mount rifle holder like see on atv's... Splash guard ta keep tush dry while going threw puddles, & seen straps on bikes go over shoes so get power on upward peddle for 4wd... Terrian i hunted scratch figured get stuck, use more energy... Kinda like differance between target chooten & live target... confused2 then, never tried, so interested how well it works... Helped person bring hog out on cart, it bogged down, it was easier ta take backstraps & quarters, & back pack out, allways open for easier sullution... As pappy said: finding hogs, ((deer & such) is easy part, getting it out is were work begins... flag
