A trend has started in the hunting business that disturbs me a bit as a professional guide and outfitter, here's the basics, the word guarantee would probably work in a used car lot, a cordless tool, a politician not returning your phone call, taxes, well I think the point is made here. But when you inject hunting, game animals, trophies, taking shots etc. how and why should guarantee even be considered? Just go down the forum pages or ad's and read how many times the word is used, better yet the meaning behind its use in hunting, especially when it comes to a specific size, score or age of a certain game animal, have we become so concerned about numbers that its the first thing that comes to us? I can fill a book with the hunters that walked up on downed game and the first thing they did was to take out the tape and start measuring. In real hunting conditions this guarantee may or may not apply, so in the end does it really make a difference if its 18 or 10. or 140 or maybe 145?
NO, just go out and hunt, enjoy the day.
David

We all hunt for our own reasons, and if somebody is willing to pay another person for a hunt that they enjoy, who am I to judge?

Exactly. Some people have very, very limited time off to go do a hunt. If they want to pay a little more and be guaranteed a harvest for their 1 trip a year, more power to them.

When I take people out for deer or elk, I make one guarantee. I will work as hard as humanly possible for them to have an enjoyable hunt, and hopefully be successful. No more, no less. Everything after that is up to them and the game. If that isn't good enough, I'll never take you again!

A buddy went on a Guaranteed mountain lion hunt. He didn't get one the first year so next year was free, didn't get one that year so free, and connected the third trip. Stand up outfitter and if I get to go I will use the same guy. He isn't cheap but he guarantees a mature lion and will take you every year until it happens. So I like guarantees.

And that is how a guarantee is supposed to work. Nothing wrong with offering such a deal.

I don't understand why people are so worried about other people's hunting.

Yeah, a guarantee in that line of work isn't necessarily a promise to kill the intended animal on the first try, but can be a promise to keep at it until the opportunity is presented. I don't see a problem with that.

High fence or not, our work is the same and is defined on our website. I don't have a problem letting someone return for a second hunt if they give me their time to hunt.

Especially since most animals are pen raised the turned out into a larger pen to be shot....easy to make a guarantee like that...

Ahhh, now you're just "transferring" out of your, understandable, frustration. I know you wanna punch someone, but hitting one of us HF hunters ain't gonna fix the problem. laugh

I can understand the OP's concern somewhat. And, as others have stated, folks hunt for different reasons. I've got a friend on the lease that always seems to research what the "benchmark" is on any species he's going to hunt for the first time and he wants that number for his first kill. He went to S. Africa and was considering a cape buff. He knew that 40" is the minimum "Holy Grail" number and that's what he wanted, for his first buffalo. I'm more for the experience.

My desire for a guarantee is proportional to the cost. You charge more I want something. I can't believe some of the prices guides charge.

2k elk hunt. I know I am putting in work and I got a better chance then I bring but myself
10k elk hunt... different story

Wonder how many people remember their "first girl/woman"?

Have you ever regretted not waiting till next year for a better rack on the guide?

Or spending more of your money for more experience in the female guide?

I love sitting around the club listening to stories "I remember my first gal, yep, waited till I was 28yo but she was worth the wait. 35DD and what a smile" The room goes silent, not from admiration but from thoughts of "what an effing idiot"

You're never guaranteed about next year, people ask what you think of next season, you have to seize the opportunities when they're in front of you!
