I met a fellow at a hunting camp last year that had a nice sharpener. The knife was held parallel to the table and with gentle pressure the knife pressed down in a cutting motion. The diamond sharpener maintained the correct angle fr sharpening. 3 or 4 passes is all it took to put edge on a knife that was used to skin 4 deer that evening.
Does anyone know of a sharpener like this? I have seen one like it in Gander,Cabella's, or Bass Pro.

Don't know about those but I sharpen knives on the side and I use a Wicked Edge sharpener. In 10-15 minutes I can have a knife splitting hairs, the life of it staying sharp will depend on the quality of steel and what your cutting.

Let me guess your grandpa taught you 60 yrs ago how to use a wet stone and thats all you have ever used on a knife and anything anyone else does differently is wrong.

Thats just the basic kit, I have over double that invested with the additional stones. You get what you pay for, there's nothing that will compare to it.

I use these pull through methods but want to learn how to use a wet stone. My problem is the angle and keeping it. I use a spiderco tri-angle sharpmaker but I'm only mildly satisfied with it. I probably need to learn how to use it better.

I'm looking for an angle guide for a wet stone to help me with the muscle memory. I've seen some that clip on but I'd like the kind that do not.

Lets see some pictures of a knife sharpened by a Work Sharp. I bet where the work sharp first touches the blade it leaves a small divot! Pictures please! I have used a stone for over 60 yrs, and still do. But for a touch up on a knife or a 2 blade Eskimo, you can't beat it. Just my $.02!
